That is decided by each individual shop, including repair shops at dealers. There is a general range (over $85 per hour, the last time I looked for it), but each shop chooses how much to take you for.

It is amazing to me that you have reached the age of 77 without knowing this.

Many shops used to post their labor rate on the wall in view of where the repair order was being written up - but not sure if this is still the case. You would also need to know the associated "book hours" a particular repair is budgeted for as well.

Kelson, your age reference is inappropriate! Let me rephrase the question, where can I find the flat rate TIME for a specific repair?

There is nothing inappropriate about what I said. I am 64 years old, and I learned this about 50 years ago. I am amazed you did not. That doesn't have any hidden meaning. It is, to me, astonishing.

The amount of time each shop sets for doing a particular job is also set by each shop, and often has very little to do with the actual time it takes, and more to do with how much money they can take you for. Again, it is amazing to me that someone who (apparently) has an interest in auto repair costs is not aware of this.

You can try this - Free Car Repair Estimate - Get Auto Repair Costs | RepairPal

Keep in mind that labor guides are just that; a guide only. Guides such as Chiltons, Motor, and so on usually have something in the foreword about this and that additional time should be allowed for rust, frozen or mangled fasteners, or even cleaning if the situation warrants it.

If the labor guides says 1 hour to change spark plugs and it turns out to be a 3 hour job because the plugs are frozen in place, threads are pulling when the plugs are removed, and so on then the labor guide has to go out the window.

If you need an accurate number, you’re going to have to ask the shop what the price will be. Every shop will have different policies for pricing–some may use a labor guide, some will have a “one price fits all” procedural charge, some may charge whatever they feel like that day and as mentioned above, idiosyncrasies about each job may have impact to overall cost as well.

Labor flat rate manual

This site is about Acura vehicles. I am asking where I can find the time that an Acura dealer would use to estimate a specific repair. Or what amount of time would Acura allow for a specific repair if it was a warranty item. Understand that labor rates vary and that other issues might cause additional time.

I, personally, have not seen this on line. I would think that this might be held "pretty close to the chest." There are some Acura/Honda technicians that are members on this site and may be able to answer your question if you spell out the details of what repair you are inquiring about. Further they may be some DIY'ers who may have done the repair themselves that can give you some perspective in terms of how long it took/cost them vs. time/cost that a shop would charge. Hope this helps.

One quick PS - depending on what the repair is and/or if it is going to be covered by a warranty claim - more often than not a Honda dealer is going to be cheaper (labor and parts, but can't speak to hours) than an Acura dealer. With that said - a Honda dealer cannot submit for warranty claim on an Acura and get reimbursed.

Sorry I could be of more help. In terms of checking the threads, believe it or not, the search functionality using Google and mentioning Acurazine in the search provides better results than using the search functionality on this site.

When I worked at a dealership, we had three labour time guides: Chilton, Motor and the factory warranty time guide. The Chilton and Motor guides were for retail and always had more time per operation than the factory warranty guide.

We would have add-ons for rusted and seized fasteners that took extra time.

I have Alldata DIY subscriptions for some of my cars. As an example, the manufacturer time to replace a steering rack on a 2011 TL is 3.9 hours and the “Standard” or retail time is 4.6 hours.

Unfortunately Alldata DIY does not have a subscription available for the 2G RDX.
