Angry Jerking/slipping in icy conditions

I'm on my 2nd Minnesota winter with my 2013 RDX (approx 27k miles) and my wonderful car that did great last winter has developed a scary issue this winter. I should preface that in every instance, I have had people flying past me in the left lane with no problems. We get these light dustings of snow that slightly glaze the roads over. Nothing major, no problems stopping or accelerating, but when I am going a steady speed, anywhere from 40-60 mph, the car will jerk violently. Almost like it's losing traction, but to be honest, it feels "different" than a normal tire slip. Sometimes it will happen once in 5 miles, sometimes several times within a mile. 90% of the time it will occur between 50 and 60 mph, making me wonder if there is a correlation between the car shifting and the pronounced jerking. One time I was doing a steady 40 mph and it jerked so violently the front end dipped down and I honestly thought I hit something! I have tried shutting off the VSA and had the same results. I find myself wishing for bigger snows so I can drive on snow packed roads because it does great on snow, just not wet/icy.

I should also note that I haven't been super excited about the hesitation and rough shifting on dry roads, but just figured it was part of the car.

I had it in the dealer last week and of course they couldn't re-create these instances, and they have heard of no one else having this problem, so nothing could be done. If I wasn't terrified to drive the 50 miles to the dealer right now I would just so they could (maybe) see what it does.

Sorry for the long first post, but I'm frustrated to the point that I found myself hoping the car would just roll during my white knuckle drive home from work tonight so I could get a different car. Has anyone out there heard of or had this issue?

take it over to white bear Acura. I would be surprised if they could not find the issue. Those guys are great. jerking is usually a sign of drive train failure. Ask for Chris in the service dept. and tell him Robert recommended him to you ( tell him I am the dude with the white CL-S). Chris is my service advisor and I have known him for about 8 years

Thanks for the reply. I made another appt with Buerkle in Brooklyn Park after it acted up again on Wednesday night. If they can't figure it out I'll make the trek to White Bear Lake.

^ I went there once and that's not going to happen again. I had just got my car and it was just out of warranty and I needed something looked at and they were basically "we're booked for 3 weeks" Whitebear took care of it in 2 days time despite having more cars in for service. Been with them ever since. (I used to live on Georgia CT - off Zaine) in Brooklyn Parks so they were literally in my back yard)

Make sure you take a tech with you for a ride...

Could have something to do with the AWD system; differentials acting up.

I have started experiencing the same issue with my car (2014 AWD Tech). It feels like the wheels are continuously sleeping or loosely attached. Whole car starts shaking sidewise at 50-60 mph. I live in Fargo, North Dakota and the nearest Acura dealer (Burkle Acura) is 250 miles away.

Too bad for me, I was so confident with Acura... :-(

^ man only the ass hats drive like that on glaze. Generally speaking, if you cannot hear your tires on the pavement, you are driving on what they call back ice and need to slow down. Driving through snow on decent tires will allow you to get closer to the speed limit.

ANY DEALER (even a Honda dealer) should be able to fix a problem like you're describing.

This description alone "One time I was doing a steady 40 mph and it jerked so violently the front end dipped down and I honestly thought I hit something!" should be enough for them to get a pretty good idea of what the cause is. I'd be afraid to get on an Interstate highway with cars going over 50 mph, just in case it started jerking, or worse yet, locked up stopping short.
