5 feet seems pretty short. I have to be about 5 feet from my driveway, not 5 feet from my garage door remote receiver. Id say my ILX gets like half the range your GMC truck remote gets.

Take it to the dealership.

Don't know if there is an accessible antenna, but mine will open the garage door from at least 50' away - maybe a bit more.

I wonder if it depends on what your garage door is made from. I've got a wood door.

In any event, 5' seems like a problem. You might try to reprogram it again.

we have a steel door but I thought homelink was all built by the same company my truck homelink will work from 2 houses away. we have to pull up where our front bumper is about 1' from the door before anything happens. dealer says it our door opener that is bad then why does my truck work??? their answer is we don't service gm products.

^^ The homelink is touchy for sure. I can occasionally open the door from the road as I am approaching the house but when I try and open it while I am back into the driveway, its quite similar to what you are experiencing....about 5-10 feet and sometime, numerous trials before it works.

Just for shits and giggle, as you are approaching your driveway, try pressing the homelink button and see if that works. I noticed that if there is another car in the driveway, its even worst.

Good luck but this is not uncommon as many have complained about their homelink range.

About the same for mine. With the remote it's a lot further. I have a Sears Craftsman belt GDO and an insulated garage door.

Programming the HomeLink is NOT intuitive. For most newer garage door openers, it's a two-step process.

Here's a thread that helped me:

The issue lies partially on the motor unit and partially on Homelink. I have two door with two different motor units, one opens from about 50 ft away and the newer one only opens at around 2 ft from the garage door. However, the remote that came with the newer motor unit has a better range.

Maybe I'll google how to increase the range at the motor unit.

Clearly the Dealer is giving you the run around. Since both your truck and your car are opening the same garage door and yet the truck's rage is 50' vs. the car's rage is only 5'. This certainly shows the problem is within car's Homelink module. It is OK that the Dealer says they don't service gm products since the problem is in the Acura product (which they do service!). Go back and tell them to service their Acura product.

Ours seems to have about the same range as the garage door remote, around 100 ft. I do need to hold the button on the Homelink for a second or so whereas for the remote just a momentary press will work. It's a Chamberlain opener that we got from Home Depot, IIRC, four or five years ago. Our house is concrete block with an insulated steel door. The antenna is a wire about nine inches long that hangs from the power unit.

I had an '06 TL and an '12 TL and they both opened my garage door from over 50' away. My '14 RDX has to be in the driveway to open this same door. Crazy. Daughter has a '13 RDX and she has noticed that her garage door opens from the street in warm weather and she has to be really close in winter to open the door. Go figure.
