Fuel Gauge Malfunction
I began experiencing this problem the past week.
If I turn off the car after driving a while and the gauge shows 1/4 tank fuel left, the next day when I start it up the gauge shows almost 3/4 full. The range displays over 200 miles. After driving about 10-15 minutes the gauge will very quickly drop back to under a 1/4 tank, but the range still displays around 200 miles. Then a few minutes later the range drops to 60 miles or so.
A few days ago, it went from over 1/2 tank to empty within 20 minutes, and the low fuel warning lit up.
The car is now under extended warranty and hopefully the dealer wont give me trouble to fix it. This car is such a pain... Add this to the list of a dozen problems I've experienced with it. Another reason never to buy an Acura again.

The range is determined by your average mpg over the last 10 minutes of driving or so (not sure exactly what timeframe Acura uses - BMW is ten minutes) and the amount of fuel left in your tank.
Accordingly, the symptoms you describe could very easily all be caused by a malfunctioning fuel gauge.

With that quick of a change it has to be the signal the meter is getting. So either the sending unit is bad (in the tank) or there is some kind of noise, grounding, resistance on the wire between the sender and the meter.
