Flaking Leather cushion
Flaking Leather cushion
Has anyone experienced flaking on the leather cushion of the front seat? I brought it into my dealer to take a look. The service advisor took a few pictures to send to the local Acura rep a few weeks ago but I can't get a response from them now. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue? It's on the front passenger seat which is rarely used. Within the first year of having my car I didn't like the way the side of the driver side leather was cracking but they told me that was normal.
The piping on my driver's seat has lost it's outer layer just from me getting in and out of the car. The color is all gone. The material is very thin. On my neighbor's 2008 Acura MDX, the passenger seat area has the color almost totally gone. The dealer said they must have had a warm pizza box sitting on the seat. I think you have to be very careful as to what cleaners/conditioners are used on this leather.
If you want to get rid of the dry look of the leather, use meguairs leather cleaner and conditioner , and if you don't want the shiny armour all look you have to wipe it down over and over until the shine looks the way you want It to.

In general, the seats should last the lifetime of the car if properly cared for. Proper care means cleaning regularly because dirt is what causes deterioration.
Leather on a new car should never be cracking but one man's "cracking" is another's "wrinkle" or "crease".
Creasing is inevitable, but regular cleaning will reduce the look of the crease and will keep a crease from turning into a crack.
Pictures or it is fine.
Flaking Leather cushion
Thanks for the replies. I tried to upload a pic but it didn't load. I'll try again. I am most concerned about the flaking spot then the wrinkles/creases. I do clean/condition the leather and would not expect this to be an issue on a car that's 2 years old. I guess this is not a common issue since it seems no one else is experiencing this.
Hard to tell from the photo but I would put that into the "external damage" category. The cell phone photo isn't the sharpest but there appears to be a line (scratch?) from the white spot going up at a 45 degree angle to the right. Is it possible that something scratched or stained it? Anybody sit there with riveted jeans? I've seen that type of damage before with a damaged rivet scratching leather.

Yes, my 2013 has the same problem. I noticed it over a year ago, but never reported it to my dealer. I assumed they would just say its normal wear and tear. I remember a few years ago the first generation RDX had a problem with the leather on the armrest peeling away, and warranty didn't cover it.
I see a bunch of tiny cracks and wrinkles on the drivers seat, like it's about to flake off. It hasn't gotten any worse since I first noticed it. Let's see if it holds up.
