Driver Seat Bolster
Driver Seat Bolster
My 2 year old '14 RDX AWD/Tech with 25K miles is losing the color as shown in the attached photos. Dealer said they can dye the bolsters and if I'm not happy they will replace the seat. Anyone else have this problem? It's not color transfer onto the seat, it's color loss.
Thanks

Are you sure it is not the other way around - color from your pants transferring to the seat? I have seen parchment-colored leather car seats getting blue from jeans (sorry dad!) in those same places.
Otherwise hope you can get a new seat out of the deal!

Yes they tried using a number of cleaning techniques including those used by their "leather expert" and determined it's not color transfer.
(Had a new TLX loaner, not a fan of the pushbutton gear selector.)

Well Kaputnik, it appears that the 'leather expert" must have read your post and now says it IS color transfer despite the fact that I rarely wear jeans in the RDX and none of my other cars have any similar transfer. So the dye job will cover the color transfer, not replace the worn off color. I guess he covers floor stains in his house with rugs.

Also on the first picture it looks like a marker is drawn or is that just the outlining?

Seriously, I hope they can make them look as good as new, or just get you new ones. Good luck.

This is clearly dye transfer. Automotive leather is coated so you would see damage to the finish in addition to the color change. Also, the area would most likely look lighter rather than darker.
Look into the line of LeatherMaster products to resolve these types of issues in the future (including the magic marker line
).
This is NOT a manufacturer's defect so the dealer is really doing you a favor by addressing this - assuming that they do it properly.
