Check Emissions System - Code P0333

About a month ago I was driving my wife's 2016 RDX and the Check Engine Light came on with a message that said Check Emissions System. She was almost out of gas (Range of about 35 miles left) and I stopped at a gas station, added a bottle of Techron High Mileage, and filled up the car. Not more than 5 miles later the light went off by itself. About a week ago we were driving home from a soccer game and the light came on again with the same message - Check Emissions System. I took it to Advanced Auto and had them pull the code and it came back with code P0333 - Knock Sensor 2 Circuit High Input Bank 2. She was at about a quarter of a tank so on the way back home I stopped at Quicktrip (she'd been using Kroger - thought it might have been a bad batch of gas or something), filled up with gas, and when I put the gas cap back on I made sure it clicked at least 5 times. About 15 miles of driving later the light went off again by itself. Tonight we're driving home and it the same thing happens - Check Emissions System. This time I paid more attention to the fuel gauge. This seems to happen when the RDX is one or two lines below (or lower) than 1/2 tank of gas. I'm not noticing any loss of power - it was still smooth on the highway.
Is this more than likely just the sensor going bad or a loose connection or something? There were no other codes when they checked it - only the same stored code P0333 from the last time it cleared on it's own. Any insight/advice is more than appreciated!!! Thanks!

Maybe use a name brand high-test gas and fill your tank when it is near empty to get rid of the old gas and do so for the next two fill-ups?

Wouldn't hurt to throw a bottle of fuel cleaner in the tank too.

Another user had a similar issue. You may want to reach out to him and see what he came up with.

It was 93 Premium Octane from Quicktrip. We only use Premium Gas. She usually fills up at Kroger because we can use Fuel Points. We've had it coming up on five years and she's always pretty much used Kroger gas (again premium 93) and it hasn't done this before.

The last two times I've filled it up for her I waited until it was almost on E and used a bottle of Techron High Mileage

Thanks! It's actually almost due for an oil change and tire rotation so I'm going to take it in this week and see what they find. They are an independent Honda/Acura shop not too far from where my wife works. They've done all of the maintenance on the RDX.
I'm also hearing kind of a pulsing sound on the passenger side of the engine compartment - it sounds like it's coming from the area near the timing belt or water pump. I did have the 105K service (Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tensioner, etc.) along with the major service items (Oil Change, Transmission, Fuel Injector Cleaning, Air Filter, Spark Plugs, etc.) done back at the end of May - and we did take a pretty long trip in it in July (from Georgia to Virginia) and I don't recall hearing that sound. The CEL definitely didn't come on then - only the past maybe three weeks.

I appreciate all of the advice! I'll definitely post what I find out!

It's at the shop now getting the Knock Sensor in Bay 2 replaced along with a new wiring harness. There was no evidence of anything (like rats, etc.) getting into the engine and chewing into the wiring but they are going to replace the harness anyway.

jayce75 - did you ever get your issue fixed? I had this same issue (Check Emissions System - Code P0333) on my 2016 RDX. The mechanic checked all wiring for any rodent chewing but finding no issues was confident it was the knock sensor. Having read this article I warned him that I wasn't as confident as he was. He did replace it but the light came back on within days. I'm taking it back in tomorrow.

Yes it was fixed. The shop replaced the harness as well as the knock sensor. Did your mechanic replace the harness too? With mine the light did come on shortly after I picked it up but it went away after driving it about 50 miles and hasn't come back on since.

I took it back in and they think the mechanic replaced the wrong knock sensor. They replaced the correct one and so far so good. Hopefully it works and I got 2 knocks for the price of 1.
