2014 RDX rear shock noise

After about 4,000 miles, my new 2014 FWD Tech pkg RDX started to produce a "cottle, cottle" sound in the rear when going over uneven bumpy surfaces. The dealer replaced the rear shocks under warranty with another OEM pair. At about 7,800 miles the same problem re-emerged. I rarely drive (hence the low mileage). I have never put the shocks "under load." Seems pointless to put in yet another set of OEM shocks. Has anyone else had this issue?

It has been discussed at length in this forum. KYB makes a replacement rear shock for the RDX that seems to be the solution of choice if you dan't want to go OEM. I don't have the part number at hand but you can search here or check some of the on-line parts vendors. I got them from Amazon. Easy install...again, search here for details.

Check out TSB 16-059 - Pop or Clunk from the Rear Suspension in Cold Weather in the 2014 TSB thread.

EE4Life, THANK YOU so much for replying with TSB-16-059. I have forwarded the link to my Acura dealership mechanic and requested repairs. The only question is whether they will honor the warranty (which expired 8 days ago). Doesn't matter- I will pay to get it fixed. Merry Christmas indeed!

I too had the rattle coming from the rear of my recently purchased 2015 RDX. Thanks to this board, I was already pretty confident the noise was from the shocks - but on my first visit the service guy at the dealer insisted it was a loose spare tire. They cranked it down etc. to no effect. On my second visit they were a bit more open-minded and ultimately replaced both rear shocks. Noise completely gone.

mmalvy,

I hope that changing out the shocks does the trick. Bear in mind that it is August -- the "clunking" noise i had was intermittent, but most typical in colder weather. I did eventually get the rear damper upper mount bushings replaced per this service bulletin:

http://www.urvi.net/forumfiles/SB/B16-059.PDF

That was the actual remedy -- for my issue.

Best of luck!

My 2013 RDX has some noise coming from the front passenger wheel area. I think it is the suspension, but really don't know. It's small click and pops when we're going slow and normally turning, I'm not as sure about bumps. Any ideas? Is this something that I should fix? The noise is barely audible.

Usually clicks are caused by CV axles going bad. It can change sound and pitch when turning wheel. Turn wheel out and look at your axle boots to see id they are torn and ripped.

One more thing. That sounds right. I will make the visual inspection when I get a chance. Is this something I should repair? What's the urgency rating on something like this?

If the boot is torn, most of the grease is gone. What gets in is dirt and sand, so I wouldn't wait too long to replace them. Eventually they will fail and you will need to get towed to shop.
