2013 RDX 70 MPH vibration issue

While test driving 2013 RDX Front wheel drive, tech package with no rails etc, got vibrations on highway when touched 65 - 70 mph.

The sales guy checked the Tyre pressure and it was 37-37-37-37, said its more should be 35 ?

Additionally it was nitro filed.

This was 2nd Test drive, first one went good but was driving below 60 mph

Tire pressure should be 33 but that is probably not the problem. Probably wheel and tire balance. If you bought the car it is under warranty. Let them fix it.

On side where vibration is suspected, take the wheel off and remount the wheel using the proper bolt tightening sequence. wheel may not be centered on hub.

The hubs are self centering. If it was an older vehicle....clean surface area behind wheel and mounting area. It's most likely a re-balance issue to fix it. Rare...when new..but, does happen. Mine is smooth all the way. Took it to 95 for a short distance when I was trying to be run over by a big ass Audi. He stopped riding my butt after that. Guess he thought he was the big dog on the road. I've noticed Audi owners are kinda...uppity. They like to race you and show off.

If using a tire gauge...they are calibrated at sea level. For every 1,000 feet up in elevation add 1/2 lb to the gauge reading. I have no idea how the system on the RDX is calibrated. I don't depend on that anyway. I have an accurate....it's been calibrated....tire gauge I use to check my cars tires at least twice a month. Again, remember your elevation. I'm at 6,200 feet. I should add 3.3 lbs to the gauge....I want 32 lbs....so my tire gauge will read 35 when I'm airing them. Close enough.

I agree that tire pressure is not the issue. As far as 37 psi on the demo, that is also what mine had from the factory. Remember that tire temperture makes a difference when measuring and should be done cold. 37 psi in a hot tire may well be 35 when measured cold. Here in Florida it is not unusual to see 1-2 psi higher in the two tires on the sunny side of a car in the afternoon summer sun.

Sounds like a wheel alignment. If u drive it again let go of the wheel and if it moves to the side it's the alignment. If u get the alignment and it still does that something going on in the engine.

It sounds like the wheels need balancing. The factory can be really slack on balancing wheels and the dealers aren't the greatest either if you can't get the dealer to rebalance contact Acura customer service. My 2013 rides like I'm on a cloud a huge improvement over the 2009 we traded in.

I purchased a new Audi A6 several years ago and also had a vibration that began at 75Mph and got worse as speed increased. After weeks of the dealer trying to figure it out it ended up being one of my front tires had a flat spot. They replaced the tire and it was gone.

I am also experiencing a very light vibration around 70 mph here in California. This is on perfectly smooth roads too. I've had the tires rebalanced at a local tire place. Does Acura's road force balancing system work better than just a regular tire shop...or is there another problem that is causing this vibration. I also have a BMW 335 and it is smooth as silk on the same roads I drive in my 2013 RDX w/Tech. I also have the upgraded diamond cut wheels.

Acura dealer tested car with different set of wheels from one of their loaner vehicles and there was no vibration. Their road force balancer was broken and they had no idea when it would be fixed as they were waiting for a part. I originally had the tires mounted on the new Acura Diamond Cut wheels at a local tire place with only a computerized spin balancer. I took it in to Big O Tires two weeks ago and then took a trip to Palm Springs. There is no vibration now at any speed and it was a lot more fun to drive.

My 2014 AWD Tech has been at the dealer for a week with a vibration problem. New wheels / tires and road force balance didn't fix it. Factory Rep drove it yesterday and today it gets a new drive shaft (1200miles). If that doesn;t work they're going to start on motor mounts.

I took my car in for a 4k mile oil change and to finally address the vibration issue.
The rep drove my car and said they felt a little shimmy at high speeds... then said nothing. after some staring at each other and me saying... so umm if you feel it and i feel it, what do we do now lol

He then sighed and said he'll do a balance on everything. Voila they were off a SUPER small bit but makes a WORLD of difference, car has been doing that since we bought it but not 100% gone. Make them check every wheel super closely and keep your tire pressure at 33 across the board.

I've got the same thing. 2013 with 1500 miles. Vibration starting at about 65. Seems to be on the right side. No steering wheel shimmy so maybe the right rear - or maybe the drive shaft as mentioned above. Taking it to the dealer.

Could I get you to provide an update on how things are going. I have been having the same issue with our car for over a year. They have tried switching drive shafts from other vehicles that seem to drive better, they have done extensive high speed wheel balancing using a special balancer, they have swapped in a brand new set of tires. The vibration lessened but never went away last spring after completion of a lot of work. Now it is back and a lot worse than in the past, I am wondering if the cold weather is at play as it has been minus 25C here in Canada. Recently had it in and one of the struts requires changing, don't think that is the cause of the vibration. I believe that I have ruled out engine vibration (not 100% sure though). If I bring car up to 100Km/60mph and then left off gas, the RPM drops but the vibration stays until the speed drops to 80Km/48mph. We really like the car overall but this vibration issue is real annoying. The VCM while annoying is understandable, just wish there was a way of turning it off when you don't want it, it doesn't work well at low speeds in the winter.

^^ have they tried swapping tires and rims from another new RDX? Wonder if there could be a bad rim somewhere?

My vibration issue is back. I just did a 500 mile drive from Orange County to Sacramento and I noticed it the whole way. It might be an alignment issue now though as I have run into a few curbs. In my past experience, I gave never had wheel vibration caused by alignment problems. My appreciation for this Acura (my 5th) is waning fast.

It is possible a bent wheel or internal tire damage from hitting curbs is causing the vibration.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but did you guys eventually get it all figured out? Curious to see what resolved the issue.
