I had a remote start installed on my wife's 2017 RDX Technology. BestBuy has a deal almost every month when they offer compustar remote system for $250 with free installation. It also includes all required hardware. It comes with 2 key fobs, one is 2 way (with pager) and the basic one. Also remote start can be used with original key fobs. One has to press lock 3 times. I download manual with instructions to see what options are available for coding.
1. I wanted to have 3s long press on Lock to remote start from Acura key fob. Per manual one can do 3s long press, lock 3 times (default), lock-unlock-lock.
2. Remote start with negative pulse (single, also can be programmed for 2 pulses or 3 pulses).
3. Change the run time from default 15 minutes to 10 minutes.
The installer said that option 1 wasn't available, but was able to code the second option. He convinced me to keep the default value.
I wanted to have option 2 enabled in case I decide later on to add WiFi controlled relay. It will enable the control from the phone app or even ask Alexa/Google to start my car.

I read on this forum that others had the remote start functionality interrupted when the door was unlocked, that is not the case here. Carry over works quite nicely, one just have to touch the brake pedal and the navigation will come on and one is ready to put the car in the great and drive away (navi is in off state when remote start operates).

Bestbuy had a different model of compustar with subscription option that will enable one to remote star the car or find where you found it on the map and bunch of other features, though monthly subscription is required. Other non compustar remote starters are also available.

 

I'm considering a remote starter for my 2017 RDX Technology.

What model Compustar did you get? Can you still use the Acura fob or do you need to use the Compustar remote? Were you happy with Best Buy?
