RDS question

Test drove a RDX tech today and noticed that the radio RDS system did not display song title or artist while listening to AM/FM stations, only when using XM. This is a major disappointment as I thought any radio that had RDS gave you that info on AM/FM or any station that broadcast the data. My 10 year old Infiniti with RDS scrolls the artist, song and station and I am very used to it and would miss it on the RDX. Bummer. Any workarounds or feelings on this???

Duh. Did that many many times. The salesman went through all the menu screens and tried to get it to work with FM but couldn't. He said it just doesn't work and I told him that was a major hang up for me. It worked fine with XM when you pushed title though. I remember sitting in a base RDX and listened to my favorite radio station which always scrolls on my present ride and nothing showed on the base radio screen.

The RDS info seems to depend on the AM/FM station. Some will scroll all song title/artist/station name. Others will give you nothing - even if the audio quality is the same. I've found this in a number of vehicles. If your Infiniti is getting more RDS "hits" it could have a stronger antenna?

I've had no problem with the RDS title on our RDX, it works on all the same radio stations it does on our Mustang (in fact I wish the title display on XM would automatically scroll through the artist and title like RDS does). If you're having significant issues with it not working its something your dealer ought to investigate as it should work.

RDS problem

Like I said, it was a test drive as I'm seriously considering getting a RDX. Maybe it was that particular vehicle that was having a problem. I'm going back next week for another test and/or negotiation for purchase.

How is supposed to work on a regular FM station. When you push title is that all you get the title of the song or does it also give you the artist name? Really curious about this.

Just heard back from the Acura dealer where I test drove the RDX and was having trouble with the RDS. Seems the particular RDX I drove did have a problem and the salesman I originally dealt with was NOT correct. Appears that the RDS will display the title and then the artist on radio stations broadcasting the data. Tks for the comments.

Glad you heard back from them.

The information it will display from an RDS FM radio station depends on what the station transmits, but usually they transmit the station name, then the artist name, than the track name (it can also be used for traffic alerts, but I've never see it done). For an FM station, the display on the RDX will scroll through these as they are transmitted, for XM you have to press title manually to go from station name, to artist to track.

Good luck if you decide to go for an RDX, I hope you join the club!
