Key Fob / Remote Start

Key Fob / Remote Start
So I have a question does an OEM remote starter replace your Key fob? The reason I'm asking is my wife borrowed my key fob....long story short it ended up getting washed and its fried so now I'm down to 1 key. A replacement key is $180 (13 RDX) plus I have to get it programed to the car so it's going to cost me like $260. For a little more I can get the remote start system... so wondering if it's worth just upgrading. Thoughts?

I wouldn't think that getting remote start would render your other key useless since it is programmed to your car. You could probably buy the remote start key fob cheaper if you find the part number for it and look it up. You could also get the key programmed for cheaper if you go somewhere else. If you did get remote start, it would only work on the new key fob since it would have the button to activate it. I never feel like I needed remote start in my '13 RDX. In the summer it doesn't get too hot inside and the AC kicks in very quickly. In the winter I have warmed up very quickly inside.

go for it
I would. Remote start is a great feature, I have it on my 16 RDX, and what really surprised me is the range (for an OEM product) is actually further than I expected. My remote has a feedback LED so you know right away if its started or not. And the batteries are easy enough to change. GO FOR IT!

From my experience it wouldn't replace the OEM key FOB. I did the install with a Conpustar remote system and all it does is add a module to the car so that when you press Lock on the Fob 3 times it remote starts. The benefit of a remote start key is a higher range (but you will need to add an antenna in addition to the module in the car). Personally, there is a condo between mine and the car outside and it still works for me, so depends on your use.
