extended warranty for 2016 RDX
When I purchased my 2016 Acura RDX, it came with Proguard Protection Plan for 3 months. I can only go to one of their mechanics for service. I never had such a plan my vehicles in the past. Does anyone know of an extended warranty plan that would allow me to go to my own mechanic?
I'm assumng you just purchased your 2016 RDX and this is the dealer's 3 month/3,000 mile coverage they provide on certain used vehicles.
How many miles are on your RDX? Do you know the maintenance history of the vehicle? If you don't, I would recommend changing the oil, transmission and differential fluids to start. If it's over 100k miles, make sure the timing belt service has been performed. I would recommend disconnecting the battery for 15-20 minutes so the transmission can learn your driving style.
As far warranties, try googling "CarShield". You should come to a page with about 10 or so aftermarket warranty compnaies you can investigate. Personally, I'm not a fan of these warranties becasue of the cost and many have language that excludes big repairs. I would look over this forum and see what other owners are having issues on their 2016-18 RDX. In my opinion, Save that money for repairs if you're really concerned. These RDX are well engineered vehicles that will serve you a long time, if you keep them maintained.

Thank you for your response.
I had purchased this 2016 RDX at the end of October 2024. The dealer did provide me with a 3 month warranty.
I do not know the maintenance history: I took it to Acura for key fob, they checked and apparently previous owner did not have the car serviced by Acura.
It was just hitting 140000 miles in May, so my mechanic did a complete check up and changed filters, fluids etc. I have an appointment this month with Acura to get the timing belt serviced.
What you said makes sense: I chose this car because it is a well made vehicle. I will save the money I would pay in premiums instead, and if something happens down the road (no pun intended), I will have funds set aside.

I have 138k+ on my 2017 RDX which I bought used at 41k miles. I follow the maintenance minder and do the recommended maintenance at an independent mechanic that specializes in Honda. It helps he is about a mile from my house. My plan is to keep this vehicle to at least 200k miles.
