Base or Tech
Base or Tech
I'm looking hard at a 2014 RDX and wonder if Nav is worth the extra money. I would like the nicer sound system and the power liftgate but could live without them. I have read a number of posts that say the nav system is a real bummer.
Are there any other features that come with the Nav system that would make it worthwhile?
What is the consensus of opinion?

No nav is worth $3k. Most of the people here seem to think it's a POS but it works fine for us and I like it. The power liftgate is nice. The sound system sounds good to me but I'm not that much of an audiophile. I don't think the fog lights are very useful. All in all, I'd say the tech package is a bit over priced. But hopefully you'll get some of it back at trade-in. We were originally going with the base but my wife talked me into the tech package. I don't regret it.
As you may have seen, I've been a very vocal critic of the NAV for reasons I won't get into here. That being said, I like having a large, bright, built-in screen. And as long as you can enter destinations before you start driving, it works well.
My biggest beef is that while traveling, we need to use an iPhone to do what I feel like an expensive NAV should.
I'm not disappointed that I got the Tech package. The power liftgate does come in handy, and as I live in a sometimes very foggy area, having the fog lights is fine with me.

We have the base and find it fine. The sound system is average, it has bluetooth and plugs for iphone charging etc., so for our purposes it works. Another feature we needed as my husband and I share the car, is the two person seating preset, very nice.
The liftgate opens with the touch of the pad near the license plate as the key fob automatically opens whatever you touch. So opening is efforless, closing takes a little, very little, arm strength, so its good as far as I am concerned.
No need for navagation nor fog lights. We have a lease and were told the residual on the base is higher than the tech. True?, didn't check that out as we didn't want the tech anyway. Could possibly be because tech items get outdated so quickly.
Anyway, we like the base as we saved a good bit over the tech.

I got the base as well. Only real loss is the power liftgate as my wife is 4'11", for me (5'9") the lift gate is fine.

Recently upgraded (I thought) to Iphone 5 and my phonebook no longer functions when I'm moving, text is same way. Is there a smartphone out there that does work with a 2014 RDX (no tech)? Had a flip Samsung and phonebook worked fine. What now? back to the flip.......
Why not? Here is some reading
