Used RDX help
Used RDX help
Hey guys, I'm a long time acura owner and am looking to replace my 04 tl with an RDX. Looking at the 13-14 year models, is there anything I should watch out for on the used side? Common issues I should know about?
Is the turbo the engine the one that most prefer? This will be my wifes daily driver.
Thanks for any input.

The 13-14 RDX is the second gen. It has a V6 engine not the turbocharged 4 cyclinder of the first gen. If you are looking for driving thrill and fun, the first gen might be more to your liking. If you are looking for a more refined and polished ride with ample smooth power, then go for second gen. I'm assuming your wife would probably like the second gen version more but I could be wrong.
Common issues being talked about in the second gen RDX are propeller shaft vibration, cylinder deactivation vibration, rear shock noise, etc. I haven't experienced any of these though. FWIW, the RDX is a very nice fine car for the money. Test drive a few and report your views. Good luck.

If you could find one like ours coming off lease, you might get a pretty good deal. If someone offered to pay me $500-1000 to buy the vehicle outright and re-sell to them, they could save probably $2-4000 over the retail price on the lot. Especially as the '13s and '14s should have considerable warranty left, they might be a darned good deal.

haha
It's a classic...white with parchment. Brand new tires!!! New battery!!! New outside rear-view mirrors!!!
Seriously, lots of 3-year leases ending now and for the next few months as the inventories were just filling in late summer in '12. Not sure how you would find those folks who are turning theirs in...maybe someone here

In most states (Florida for sure) you would both have to pay sales tax on the purchase. I did this on a BMW several years ago and it added about $1700 as I paid the tax when the leaser bought it from BMW and again when I bought it from the leaser. It was 6% on each purchase.
I also shopped around recently for a used 2013-15 RDX, ultimately deciding a 2nd gen won't replace my 1st gen at this point. I still prefer the "driving thrill and fun" as Comfy said above, in which the two versions are worlds apart. Nonetheless it was my impression that there is a good supply of off-lease 13-14 yr models, and you can get a great deal on a low mileage, CPO unit. A good long test drive should help you sort out whether the vehicle has the clunking and vibration issues, which are probably rare overall. And as others have said, it really is a damn fine vehicle.

I reckon the buyer would have been talking to the tax man in Kansas when he got back
. Texas wouldn't have given me credit for tax paid if they weren't going to collect from the new buyer, I reckon; but it all worked out since I traded. Wasted $16 getting the RDX inspected a couple of weeks back; but that's water over the dam. IF DW remains happy with the FIAT, all will be right with the world

My 3-year lease included full sales tax for the entire purchase...6.25% on vehicles. As such, I got full credit for the tax on the trade in value last Friday when I went completely nuts and got DW a FIAT 500L Lounge for almost exactly the residual value of the RDX.(Nearly four grand off the FIAT sticker). That was pretty cool buying a $23K car and paying under five bucks in tax! Of course, I had already 'paid' the sales tax on the entire RDX price; but it was still kinda nifty to see that item line on the sales contract.
