Used 2016s RDX
Hi guys! Have been keeping an eye on the CPO/used RDX market since we want to get one in the next 3-4 months. Really like the Elite package but a new one is definitely out of our budget. There have been a few CPO/used 2016 RDX Elite in the market in Bay area. Currently, I am looking at a couple of used (non-CPO) 2016 Elite RDX- one (fwd) with 13K miles listed for 36.2K and another (awd) with 6500 miles for 37K. What do you guys think of these prices? Of course, these are 2-3K less than a comparable CPO rdx. Since these are non-cpo, does it make sense to look at an Acuracare warranty? I think it will be for peace of mind more than anything else. Thanks for your input?

I don't know about the US pricing as I'm from Canada. But my impression these almost new cars are not worth getting if you can stretch for a brand new one. Reason is when you buy used, you pay cash. And you often get cash discount when you pay cash for a brand new car which will shrink the gap better new and used car prices.

On another note, if the OP is looking at an "Elite" model then he is in Canada. There is no "Elite" in the US.

But OP says he's in the Bay Area, which to me, means SF area.. Dealers I've dealt with HATE cash deals (or just don't like me because I buy (or lease) just the car and don't give them an opportunity to make money off me)
Advanced models MSRP at $42k and $44k (FWD and AWD respectively). I haven't gotten quotes for RDX's, but I'd figure you can get at least $4k off sticker, if you have some decent negotiating skills.
A couple thousand off isn't worth going used imo -- There will be some miles on it (be it 6k or 12k) plus now you're the "second owner" which is drilled into people's minds that they aren't as good as one-owner cars. Acuracare doesn't seem worth it to me personally, but to each their own with that - I see both sides of the argument, so that is something for you to decide.

Dealers have better luck with the "I like that one" type car shopper who wanders in. The internet shopper is typically more savvy and less likely to fall for any dealer shenanigans. Dealers know this and, at least in my case, don't even bother with the usual grind.

There are plenty of NEW 2016's still around. I would try and make a deal on one of those rather than buying used. It could be used for a reason (such as mine which seems like a lemon).

If you can wait until the end of the calendar year, you should be able to get 10% off MSRP. There is a car-buying strategy described in numerous posts in this forum which I used and which was very successful. The key is timing (i.e., end of year), avoiding going into the showroom (i.e., use email), and using high-volume dealerships for whom the manufacturer incentives for selling the unit are more valuable than the specific profit made on the unit.
