Strut replacement - one side only?

For my 2015 RDX AWD (33K miles) with clunking sound, especially in the cold....brought into dealer and they are replacing front driver side strut and link. they said it was 'blown out'.

is it ok that they only replace the one side or should this be done in pairs?

Also, should the dealer be doing an alignment after this work?

thanks!

With that many miles they should both be replaced. And any time a suspension component is replaced, esp struts, it should be aligned. Good luck...

Thanks MarkAZ

update- they won't replace the non-defective strut. They stated shouldn't see any difference in performance between an old and a new strut at this mileage. By 70,000 miles, yes.

they also replaced both rear bushings while it was in the shop to reduce any noise from the rear.

performed a four wheel alignment.

Rides great now with no clunking noises!

they also did a fantastic job of cleaning the car inside and out. Even hosed off my Weather Tech floor mats that were really dirty from the winter.

color me pleased

There is a service bulletin for a clunking noise in the rear when driving in cold weather. The rear shock top bushings require replacement, but a lot of times this does not solve the problem and the entire shock assemblies need to be replaced. If the noise returns they will probably need to replace the rear shocks. Glad to hear the noise is gone though.
