Stone Chip !

Got my 2014 RDX 5 months ago right now its under 5k Kms. The other day I was washing it and I noticed a Chip on the center grille molding (the infamous Chrome part around the "A"). The Pebble/stone that hit the car must have hit it pretty hard because there is a little bump around the chip I had no idea chrome was so malleable.

I must say though, this was inevitable with that much chrome on the front end in 1 bulk area. Anyone had something like this happen? Any ideas how to fix it/make it less noticeable?

I'm not a huge fan of that chrome piece but, I'll take my time about making changes to it. If the replacement piece is more than you'd like to spend, how you considered blacking it out with vinyl or Plasti Dip?

I have included a few pictures of the convex/outward dent. I know its a long shot but would this be covered under warranty? a stone chip would normally cause an inward/concave dent, unlike what you see in the pictures.

Not covered by warranty (but it never hurts to ask). The problem here is that the external object damaged the finish allowing it to lift.

IMHO, that's not bad at all. It's bound to occur if you have a car on the road - I have a 1 cm long scratch on my RDX chrome shield as well.

In Toronto, we have two seasons, winter and construction. There is always bound to be random debris flying around. My take on it is, when I have a handful of these, i'll just swap out the chrome shield at the dealer. Also, better to have this happen on plastic then metal

"Chrome" ain't what it used to be, kids...it's mostly just a paint color now.

Wife drives 2013 RDX we purchased just over year ago. It has around 10K miles. This car replaced 2001 Avalon. In the year my wife drove RDX (same route) there are more chips than she had (in over 10 years ) on Avalon. We have not purchased any special paint protection on any of our cars. I am also noticing that my 2008 Highlander paint is not as good as Avalon either. Almost seems as the paint process in the car makers went thru some "cost reduction" in recent years and we are all feeling pain now.

I decided to leave the chip on the chrome piece as is since this happened to me in the first few months of owning the car then there is no point in replacing the shield every time I get a chip. However...with that being said and knowing myself, one day I might be bored and end up purchasing the new part online and have a go at it. If its doable that is.
