Splash Guards
I'm considering to get splash guards, but they are expensive.
Other than giving a good look, will they really protect the car? If no or not really, probably I should invest on other things first.
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks!

I bought the OEM splash guards. In fact it's a cosmetic mod for all purposes, but will it protect the car....May be a little bit. Basically the splash guards look like an extension of the black plastic trim at the lower edge of car. It should have come as a complete trim in all cars and not sold separately as splash guards.
What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't project too far down to effectively work as a traditional splash guard. It doesn't look the part as well. It simply looks like a cosmetic covering of the edges but I like it. The car looks complete with it.

Splash guards on the front wheels will protect the paint and body directly behind. Splash guards at the rear wheels will protect the bumper, but are also considerate the motorist behind you. Modern tires do a great job channeling water, and cars without rear splash guards tend to spray the vehicles behind them.
I've heard splash guards do add a tiny bit of drag, so they might affect your overall mpg.

So, I finally bought the splash guards and installed them. While they somewhat improve the look, I measured the additional size above and beyond the car's body (couple inches below and a inch on the side), and I'm still not convinced they will provide much protection (if any) from rocks chipping the paint directly behind the tires or any motorists behind the car.
I think it is just another hype from the dealer to spend money.

Just got a '17 AWD w Advance Package. Dealer wanted $50 to install them...said no thanks, took them home, and it took me all of 10 minutes to do it. They look good and will add a modicum of protection; however, as others have said, they are mostly cosmetic.

You should see all of the standard features on the Canadian Ridgelines, vs the US ones...it's become a joke over at ridgelineownersclub.com, as they got power folding mirrors, cooled seats, rear climate control, automatic wipers, and more.....all things left off the US models that people wanted. I guess Honda just loves Canadians!

Probably not free; however, at today's exchange rate, the Canadian 'Touring', the equivalent of the RTL-E, is 48971.50 Canadian MSRP and the RTL-E is 41370USD MSRP. That 41370 USD is 54275.37 Canadian, so the Canadians get a pretty good deal with all of the extras that they get, IMHO.
