Seeking Advice from Second Gen RDX owners
Hey everyone
Yesterday afternoon, I decided to pull the trigger on a new '16 RDX Elite. I'm excited but nervous about the decision but wanted to get some feedback if you all were in my situation.
Basically on May 24th of this year...I was in a major car accident with my '13 RDX. I was stopped at a stop light just outside the city where I live and some idiot hit my car from behind and took off! After my insurance kicked in and the auto body shop got involved, it took them $19,000 in repairs to get my car going again! It was significant hit.
Anyhow, I had a horrible experience with my previous insurance provider. After my claim was closed I switched them out and have better coverage now (private insurance here where I live). Anyhow, I wanted my previous insurance to write my car off but they did not respond to any of my requests. The auto body shop where I took it to did fix my car but it doesn't drive the same anymore...very upset about that. Any time I drive up a curb to get on a driveway or a small curb ramp, I can still hear slight creaking sounds coming from the rear where I got hit. I took it to the body shop after the fact and had them fix it. The noise is considerably reduced but I can still hear it.
About a year after I bought the '13 RDX, it was in a minor accident where another car clipped the back driver side door leaving a significant scratch. On a two lane road the driver wanted to over pass the vehicle in front it and did so by coming into my on coming lane. I had swerve off to the side to avoid a head on collision and the in process the car clipped me and took off. Another hit and run. My insurance fixed it up...about $1500 in damage/repairs but the body shop I took it did a horrible job repainting the door.
So as you can see because of idiot drivers on the road and crappy insurance, at this point I've lost a lot of value in this vehicle. I'm sure no one would want to buy this car after having $20,000 in repairs. I took it to the Acura dealership yesterday to get it appraised and yes the value has gone down significantly. Since my crappy insurance refused pay out and replace the vehicle, I decided to replace it myself with the '16 RDX and start fresh again.
In this situation do you think it was wise to trade up or hold on to the '13 RDX? I'm just thinking in my situation it was better to get rid of the car instead of holding on to it after that kind of extensive damage and horrible repairs.
I'm supposed to be picking up the new ride on Wednesday. And one quick random question...do you know if the TPMS sensors on the '13 RDX work with the '16 RDX? Are they the same? How about the wheel bolt pattern? I have some summer & winter wheels I plan on keeping and using with new vehicle.
Ok thanks guys!

Two things I have learned owning my cars, first is in a wreck like that dump it. Second is always finance/lease 100% of car as long as possible and get GAP. When I buy I. Up with 5-6 year loans or if I lease I do no money down sign and drive. This puts all the financial risk on the bank or lessor then in an accident you have less at risk.

Very good to know...I should of done this sooner. Didn't feel all that great driving that car around knowing that it had $20,000 worth of repairs done on it. Feeling a lot better now that I am getting rid of it. I plan on holding on to this new one as long as possible.

'spain to us how the other driver drove away. Looking at the damage on your car, I don't see a way that he made it far.
Also, if it was a hit and run, how do you know he was drunk? You made that statement in another post.

After the police came to investigate, the same driver that hit me took off and hit the side of a semi truck while trying to escape from eye witnesses that went to chase him. Being that it was around 5 am on a Sunday when the accident happened, police and eye witnesses concluded that driver must of been drunk...driver possibly trying to get home from a Saturday night of partying. At first, we thought that the truck that hit me probably was stolen but given the time of day when practically no one was on the highways, good chance driver was drunk.
Yeah I was lucky no injuries...could of been worse. Thankful I was able to walk away from that.

Yeah the important thing is you still have your health and it looks like your quality of life wasn't reduced. And now at least you get to drive the 2016 RDX. I love this vehicle! Don't listen to all the haters, they probably haven't even driven one yet. This is one of the finest vehicles out there and one of the fastest in its class. I like how easy it is to merge onto the highway and change lanes and how smoothly it goes over bumps. The technology is awesome. Of my friends, I haven't seen anyone else using voice recognition
so I think most people don't have that. The lane keep assist is also very cool, and of course the Jewel Eye LED's. Just a beautiful car to drive!

Speaking of dumbass drivers. I've seen way to many idiots in my city on their phones texting and assholes everywhere throwing their cigs out of their car , when I look at them they look back at me like it's OK.
But it's not...
Today I was at the grocery store , walked past an old lady getting out of her car. She literally opened her door all the way so that it was touching the other car or potentially scratching it .
Where is the facepalm emoji when I need it?
