Second Service

We've had the RDX since early July. I did the first oil change myself using Mobil 1 0-20w. It first asked for the oil change at about 9,000 miles, mostly highway miles. The next service was this one and it "asked" for a B-1,6 service at about 19,200 miles, again mostly highway miles. Incedentally the oil level has remained at full for the full 19,000 miles. Not a drop added. Anybody else have 20,000 miles yet? So back to the service. I took it to Acrua and they did the service which requried a change in the rear differential fluid. the dealer said it was a specail break-in oil and wouldn't be asked to do this again till about 60,000 miles. Oil change with full synthetic, oil filter, rotate tires and rebalance them (for some reason), and what they call a 27 point inspection. In my opinion I was a bit overcharged at approx $350.00, but it was my first visit to the stealer, I mean dealer.
I asked to update the HFL and was told there wasn't an update yet. I said please check because I think there was. Well, there was and it surprised the service manager, but they did it. Also got the tsb done to secure the underpanel on the passenger side. I had fixed this many months ago by inserting a folded piece of carboard into it, which worked fine.
I was happy with the service as they gave me a loaner car and it was done by lunch time. I live about 35 miles from the dealer so that was very helpful. I think price should have been in the $200 range, but what the heck. Oh yeh, one more thing. They said they put the right amout of air pressure in the tires but they felt like bricks and it turns out they put 41 in the front and 39 in the back. The door jamb sticker says 33 all the way around. Geeze.

I know when I had my AWD TL rear diff done it was like $105 then say $60 for a synthetic oil change rotate and balance tires $30-$50 tops. So anything over $200 to me was padding their pockets. I always tell them to change only what is in manual and I can "check" all the BS stuff they charge to check.

Also not sure where you are located, but every new car. Go to Discount Tires and for under $100 I get lifetime rotate and balance and road hazard warranty, even on the tires from the factory.

the issue here on the price is what you told them the car needed. if you tell them the car coded B16...well here's the breakdown: typical B service will cost about $180, add the 1= $30, then your 6 = the leftovers plus tax.

IF you ask for an oil change (dino $45, synthetic $70), tire rotation $30, and differential fluid "flush" $100 or so....the dealer will typically do there "courtesy inspection" on top of all of that.

as you can see you can save money depending on HOW you ask for things to be done to the car. plus having a good relationship with the SA (going to the same one) can be beneficial if other random stuff goes bad on the car. dealers also have coupons on their website as well that can bring the cost down further. so as much as everyone hates on dealers...it really all depends. i'm treated quite well at my dealer and my SA always takes care of me and my rides.

bottomline...you could have saved some dough. i've had the techs "adjust" my tire pressure before, i forgot to tell them not to bother messing the tire pressure. they dropped my PSI at all corners to the AT specs when i have a MT.

What is the TSB you mentioned regarding the underpanel? Haven't heard of this before.

I'll see if I can locate it but the bottom line is that some RDX have been experiencing an odd wind noise and it was a plastic underbody panel on the passenger side (toward the rear) where some plastic clips are needed to secure the underbody cover better.

If you think you are hearing a slight noise at speed say 60-70, the underbody panel is what is causing it. I fixed it months ago by jambing a small piece of cardboard between the plastic piece and the underside of the car. Since this was the first time I took the car for service I had them fix it the right way per above.

Just looked at mine, and the clips they refer to have apparently been replaced with metal hex-head screws. Guess they responded to complaints about the plastic clips.

Mine is a 2/13 build.
