RDX Quirks?

I have had my RDX since May 2nd. Learning something new every day. There are two things I notice and wonder about. When I back out of the garage onto the street, I notice a few metallic "pings" when I turn the steering wheel the first few turns to get oriented to the street. Just that very first few turns of the steering wheel. And, later, at seemingly random times, I get a voice and screen message that says something like "Voice commands are now available on this device....". The navigation screen greys out and the message appears along with the voice message. Nothing else happens.

Has anyone else experienced these "quirks". Anyone have any idea what is happening?

Thanks, Jim

I've received the messages about the voice commands available. This happened when the cd was in and it was recording to the HDD. I think it was referring to the search commands being available for the new content it was recording.

Good observation! I have been playing some CDs to get the HDD recordings.

Thanks, Jim

Does anyone have any insight about the "ping" I hear?

I have been thinking about it and wonder if it could have something to do with the electric steering? Or maybe the brakes adjusting when I back up?

Thanks, Jim

Just a guess but the ping may be the ABS self checking. I have a Titan pickup that has made a very loud clunk in the first few feet of driving each morning since new. The manual notes it as the ABS self checking.

Found this in the ABS section of the owners manual. Not sure if a ping equates with a motor sound.

"You may hear a motor sound coming from the
engine compartment while system checks are being
performed immediately after starting the engine or
while driving. This is normal."

This must be the funniest thing I have read: "...hear a motor sound in the engine compartment..." No shit! (lol)

Dorsey...I am not poking fun at you, but the owner's manual

No offense taken. I try to make fun of myself at least 3 times a day. However, in defense of the technical writers at Acura, there is a difference. An engine produces energy (usually from chemical fuel) while a motor consumes energy (usually in the form of electricity). I now submit myself for excoriation by every engineer on the board.

I have learned to have thick skin too....most people always ridicule the weather guy! I hear you on your description of the difference (Nuance) but I just meant it as a humorous comment although I knew what they meant.

It would be like reading on a box of laxative that it may cause diarrhea (lol)
