Rattling/Clicking from Dashboard

I got a 2016 RDX w/ Tech Package and I have this annoying rattling/clicking coming from the dashboard when driving. Has anybody come across this issue?

I'll try to record it next time I drive it.
Thanks!

At low speeds I have a rattle just above the speedometer/tach area. It started about a month after I got the car. I'm hesitant to take it in, though. When I took the car in for wind noise I learned that all acuras have that noise. My fear would be that in getting rid of that rattle I would come out with something worse.

Funny how the dealer can't figure out what you're talking about until after the warranty expires.

As long as you've got the work orders to prove that you raised the issue while under warranty, the manufacturer has an obligation to fix it.

That, of course, means that you've raised it regularly. You can't go in at 2000 miles, complain about an oil leak, then expect them to fix it when you REALLY have one at 90,000 miles.

Unusual squeaks and rattles are hard to diagnose and, like Snorf said, the fix often makes something else rattle. What you want to do is get it on record, then see if other have the same issue - that usually also means that the manufacturer has a fix.

In my case the clunk is loud. All I have to do it ro make alternating right and left turns to cause it. It sounds like it's coming from inside the dash on the passenger side. (and yess, it makes the clunk after emptying the glove box)

Finally had a chance to record a video of the noise. It turns out the noise is coming from the steering wheel where the airbag is located. The sound goes away once i rest my hands on it. Any ideas? I plan to bring it in to have the dealership look at it.

It sounds like a loose screw or possibly broken plastic clip vibrating inside the air bag cover. Scary when you realize this is a takata air bag.

YIKES! I wish you hadn't mentioned takata air bag. In addition to the dash rattle, I have developed a constant rattle in the passenger door..... and it is the one that has the takata air bag. In reality I'm not worried about the air bag (I will take it in when parts are available for a replacement), but I am disappointed to have dash and door rattles (in addition to the permanent wind noise from the a-pillars). If I drove off road or on dirt roads I could perhaps understand the rattles, but all our driving is on paved roads and we drive very conservatively.

My vin number wasnt part of the recall. I bet they replaced it prior to selling it which is where there is something loose in there.

Me (who owns a 9 year old rdx) should be worried about the bag. You guys with the 2013+ models should not be. On the other hand, my 9 year old rdx does not have a single rattle thankfully, while it is a joke that yours does (no offence intended).

Yeah they must have had to do that to be able to sell it. I would take it in. Could be a simple fix of removing/fixing the broken/loose part.

I don't know much about air bags other than the basic principle, but I think people in new cars (RDX or other) are probably victims of the hype they see in the media. I'm glad you don't have any rattles in your 9 year old RDX and there is no offense taken about my rattles being a joke. I think they're a joke, too, but I just don't laugh about them.

Yeah I am actually really surprised that dealers are offering rentals and loaners for something like this. Like I do realize how dangerous this can be, but I also don't get why they are making a big deal on new cars (the chance of problems is really really really small).

Lol at not laughing at them. Been there and done that, I get the feeling man.

Same issue here. Rattle when turning steering wheel and rattle from dashboard. Did somebody get to dealer with this issue? I'm waiting to the first oil change to bring it to dealer. If many people have this issue it should come TSB

Finally brought it in to the dealer, and they said the noise was caused by the airbag and it needed to be replaced. They had to overnight one so expect it to take a day and a half if you leave your car at the dealership.

Nope there is no tsb for it. At least not yet. I was talking to the main shop tech and when he test drove it and it was his first time hearing this issue.

I had the same issue with my 2016 RDX. They replaced the airbag and two days later the noise came back. Took it back to the dealer they replaced cable reel this time and so far no noise.

I finally got it back last friday after the 2nd time bringing it in (first time was also replacing the airbag). This time it took about 4 days for them to work on it (half of the time it was waiting 2 separate parts). Apparently they replaced the grip assembly (part # 78501-TX6-A81ZA). so far no issues.
