Looks bigger?

I spy tall tail lights (like high up on the body)...should lead to some interesting design. It now looks like the MDX in profile more than ever.

Wow...Thanks Tony. Definitely the RDX. The clearest photos I've seen so far. Yes the rear quarter panel is different with a high rising window treatment (exposed in the 9th photo). And exposed exhaust too. It is a bigger car. Could it be the MDX....?
This will be awesome.

Hard to tell with all that cladding how large it actually is. It's already pretty ridiculous in size given the class it's "supposed" to compete in. So if they move it any larger it almost won't make sense without also incorporating something under it. The CDX is too small to fill that niche left by the 1G IMHO. So are they planning on 4 crossovers?
Side note, is the MDX still sold as the Honda MDX in Australia and China?

Whatever they are planning, it better be good.

As far as I am aware, the turbos get equally worse gas mileage "while the turbos are working". It's only when the turbo is not activated, they sip less gas, but then there's no fun in that engine. I believe the current RDX has better gas mileage than the 1G RDX which was a turbo 4.

Other things to note is that the 1G was running with full time SH-AWD when outfitted with AWD as opposed to the MUCH more efficient part time system of the 2G. The other thing is that the 2G has a 6 speed vs the 5 speed in the 1G. The V6 in the 2G can operate like a normal 3 or 4 cylinder (or just 4 cylinder for 2016+) naturally aspirated engine. Lastly the 2G has a more aerodynamic shape and weighs roughly 100 pounds less. This all adds up and I would hope it would have better fuel economy lol.
If the RDX does in fact grow even more (don't understand why they are doing this) there is a 99% chance it is sticking with the V6 (possibly moving to the true earth dreams with DI) and then they will simply swap out the 6 speed for something off the shelf with more gears (doubt they are going with the 10 speed, more likely the 8 DCT or ZF9). They might be priming it to compete with the RX, MKX, and XT5 which all have V6's (some with twin turbo V6's as well) and considering it is just a hair shorter than the current RX, it might actually be the case. I don't see the 2.0T in this thing at all, and I DEFINITELY do not see a 3.5T in this thing either...this is Acura we are talking about, a side hobby of Honda.

Foot down = MPG loss...
V8's ARE fun when you're smashing the skinny pedal. but you can also see the needle on fuel gauge DROP

Of course this could be all hogwash - but a 2.0 will get you decent mileage cruising on the highway and in stop and go traffic. I wonder if a 2.0 turbo will give it enough grunt though. We drove the CX-9 with the 2.5 turbo by Mazda and that was decent enough (for a largish SUV) - I hope Acura isn't shooting too low here.

"Reports state that the next-gen Acura RDX will get the Accord’s 2.0-litre turbo engine that’s mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, instead of the current car’s V6 motor."

I never trust these car sites, it's just a bunch of computer generated bullshit aimed at attracting people to increase ad payment for the site. We're going to have to be patient I guess and see what happens. Would be fricken amazing if they moved the RDX to the MDX platform and away from the CRV.
For fun we can assume a 2.0T mated with the 8 speed DCT is true - and if so then we could assume the same powertrain may be rolled out in the TLX sooner or later...
As far as platforms - with the Accord and Civic and CRV sharing the same platform one wonders where the new RDX will land.

I agree - it's clickbait but it's fun!

The RDX has always used the civic/CRV platform, but with the 1G RDX Acura had something in the press release about the 1G RDX platform being completely unique to the RDX because they basically took the CRV platform and apparently did a bunch of
changes to it. I don't know if that was the case with the 2G RDX, though I would think it would need some changes from the CRV to comoensate for the heavy V6 and 6 speed auto.
If the 3G RDX grows some more, I would think it has a strong possibility of moving to the MDX platform and therefore regaining SH-AWD and a 5000 pound towing capacity.

I suspect they may have two options - a higher power V6 along with a more economical 4 Cyl (turbo) version (with the 8 speed DCT) similar to the TLX lineup. Just a guess of course. If the turbo is tuned properly it could work well.

I agree, I really hope it doesn't go that way...something tells me it is though. I am hoping it would go more towards what volvo does/did with the high tail lights instead.

It could be interesting if done properly. I presume the DCT is pretty sorted out by now. If they tune the turbo for enough HP and plenty of low end torque they may have a winner.
I would hope they don't screw up on the advanced packages and only make them available to the V6 trim levels as they've done in the past.

I'd consider another I-4 turbo IF, and a big if, they really bump it up power and torque wise.

Couldn't agree more. I'm loving the V6. And I had a 1st gen RDX previously so I know what the I-4 turbo is all about. V6 baby.. no replacement for displacement! Plus, the throaty muscular sound. It's a sweet sounding engine.

The new CRV gets great reviews so Id hope that the RDX would be similar since they will share the platform. Honda also already does have a pretty potent 2.0T Earthdreams motor they use in the overseas Honda Avancier CUV with 268hp. Looks a bit bigger then the current RDX, but also lower and wider. Ive always thought my 17 looked kinda tall and narrow looking.

Reading up on the 2nd generation Avancier it does sound like a possibility: 268 HP/272 ft-lb turbocharged 4 cylinder engine with a 9 speed automatic.

Good eye! I just realized what you were saying, though in truth I thought it was pretty cool that my mirrors were on my doors in my 1G. Doesn't fit the 2G very well though.

Look at the tires. They stick outside the bodywork - not production and clearly the RDX will be wider than the CRV. And the front grille doesn't line up with anything and is just jammed in place - if this were the actual bodywork that wouldn't be the case. It also has CRV LEDs and not Jewel Eyes. The profile shot is a dead giveaway that this is a CRV.
