Modifying the under trunk foam to gain more storage?

I just traded my Audi A5 and purchased a 2016 RDX AWD. My Audi had A LOT of hidden storage and I swore I thought the RDX had at least some. I am looking at the compartment under the truck where the spare tire lives. Normally I'd just put run flats on the car and pull the spare but the tires are new. Has anybody cut both the left and right side hard foam and custom configured their own storage? Looking for ideas here before I install the hitch.and wiring. Since I travel on the road a lot I had a "deconstructed get home bag" in the Audi that worked quite well. Seems like I'll be doing the sale here.

Thoughts?

Certainly not my area of expertise. The RDX does a pretty good job of isolating the driver from road noise; I would hesitate to do anything that messed with that. But if you need a different space, you need a different space. This car is pretty small compared to most SUVs; good luck with making changes, and please keep us up on them!

I've made some progress forward on this today. The 4 low profile saddlebags clip left/right into the back of the trunk on the luggage tiedowns. It's not ideal but working on it.

The RDX is pretty quiet so if I were to remove the foam I would replace it with sound deadening material.

Lastly the rear trunk board has center spacers on it........so I'm thinking of monition velcro to the underside of the board and then using Molle pouches stuck onto that.
