Idling in neutral noise

My RDX idles very smoothly when the car is in Drive or Park. However when it is in neutral it is much noisier and the engine has a soft clunking noise reminiscent of a diesel. Is that normal?

No, mine is nice and quiet all the time even though it's old and has 80k on it, take it in to have it looked at.

That is something really abnormal. My RDX sounds quieter than a Mercedes when idle and I'm not exaggerating. That is one of things I love about this RDX.

in park or neutral the engine load is exactly the same... I do not know why there would be a noise in neutral vs park. have the dealer check it.
