We are expecting a baby soon and I need to change from my 335i coupe to a more family friendly car.

Local dealer has a special on 2013 Acura RDX base with 73000 miles for $21,000 . What do you guys think of this deal ?

Should I be worried about the high mileage ?

 

Well, I can't say I'm extremely knowledgeable with the RDX, but the general rule of thumb is roughly 15,000 miles per year for the average driver. Being a 2013, that means that the car went on sale Fall of 2012. Assuming it was purchased Fall of 2013, that means that in 2 years, they drove 73,000 miles...that is very high.

Having said that, if the car was well maintained, then it shouldn't have any major issues. Make sure you can get as much info as you can...receipts, maintenance schedule, Carfax, etc. Does it look well cared for? Were they driving across the country multiple times? Also, how long do you plan on keeping it? In theory, it should last a very long time, but it does have a lot of miles for being only 2 years old.

Okay, looks like the car was maintained very well. The price does seem high considering the mileage, but I just checked on Cars.com, and there is only 1 2013 RDX under $22,000. Considering that, it seems that you're getting a good deal. If you can afford it, it may not be a bad idea to move to a car with less miles, but if not, the RDX will definitely last, it's a very reliable car.

 

Thanks guys. I am also not sure about buying a car with that many miles. I will wait and check out some more options

 

2 things you might want to consider:
1. Older RDX. It's a bit harsh riding, but you might like it coming from a 335i. You can get one 2009-2011 with between 35-70k miles (Certified)
2. If you're okay stepping down to a non-luxury brand, the CR-V is a very nice car if you go for an upper trim level. It'll keep costs down, with it's good fuel economy and less expensive service costs, plus it's very reliable. Go for the 2012-2015 model, it's the new one. You can get a 2012 or 2013 with less than 20,000 miles for under $21k (I looked at EX or EX-L models)

 

I'm shopping for a vehicle now. Will be trading a 2012 CRV with 33,000 miles. All the dealers in town have offered me 21,000 +/- for the trade. If you're finding a 2013 with under 20,000 miles (EX-L) that would be a great deal.
