Emission Check Light

I took one of my dogs to a trail for a walk this morning. We get in to head home and I start my RDX. I get a warning to tighten my fuel cap. I thought it was odd as I'd not filled up within the last four days. I get out and unscrew the fuel cap and fasten it back up again. Warning stays on.

I drive home and shut down and go inside. Two hours later get back in to go to the grocery store and as soon as I fire it up I get CHECK EMISSION SYSTEM. I'm thinking you've got to be kidding me? Vehicle has a few miles over 11K miles and this is happening? The dealer is the opposite direction to work so Monday is going to be fun day. I'm going to demand a loaner as I don't have time to sit and wait for this.

Anyone else have this issue?

When I had the 2010 TSX I would get this however, it happened after gas fills and would go away a few miles down the road. I could count the number of times it happened on one hand. It stopped happening as abruptly as it began. Never had the check emission system come on though. A trip to the dealer does sound in order.

this is a known issue if it happens to be the "tighten fuel cap" problem. it's a faulty sensor. it happens in the 2G MDXs.

As much of PITA it is to take the car to the dealer, just take it in, drop the car off, get the loaner, and let them figure it out. the only thing it'll cost you is the hassle of dealing with it and maybe topping off the loaner tank. these little annoyances can be frustrating with a new car, it can always be worse...the tranny could take a dump.

Happened to my 06 tsx 2 times. It was after getting gasoline at NJ gas stations. They did not tighten the gas cap enough. The tighten gas cap message stayed on and switched to check emissions. Luckily when I took the car in for service, they checked it out, reset the computer as they found nothing wrong. The message did not reappear. No change of gas cap either or faulty sensor.

I'm dropping it off on Wed night. They don't have any loaners until Weds. They said a leak in the system somewhere. I'll ride my motorcycle to work the next few days and drop off the vehicle on Weds.

This is an uneasy trend, rotors needed work at 4500 miles, key fob not working at times and now this. Maybe my car was made on Monday?

I picked up my RDX yesterday after the dealer having it for five days. They said the car's computer was telling them it had a big hole in the emissions system but they could not find it. They replaced the fuel cap its fine now.

I drove it last night and to work today, about 80 miles and it seems to be cured. Funny thing, on Sun my RDX loaner, also a 2013 model produced the same warning while driving with my wife. When I returned it yesterday evening they said they'd check it out. :-)

I am having a problem with the check engine light coming on and going off as well. The code that Autozone gave me said it was "P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold" if I'm not mistaken. The probable solutions are, change both up stream and down stream Oxygen sensors, Air to Fuel ratio sensor, or the catalytic converter. Any suggestions?

Warranty service. If it really is the catalytic converter, it has an 8yr/80k mi federal warranty. If it's the O2 sensors, then the vehicle is still new enough that it should be covered under warranty.

I bought my 2005 TSX in Jacksonville, but I'm now stationed in Norfolk. I'm going to call an Acura dealership and ask them about it. Thank you for the advice

I also get the "tighten fuel cap" message by error. It mostly seems to happen on hot days.

Emission Check Light / Smell

Hoping you guys can help me here. For the past week, I've been having this constant Check Emission Warning Light on my dash. I thought it could be faulty sensor and made sure the gas cap was tightened heavily, but it kept coming on.

Filled up the RDX about two days ago and now today, for the first time, smelling a really bad gasoline/emission odor both outside and inside the cabin when driving the car. Think there might be something more wrong than just a busted sensor. What do you all think?? The smell is so bad in the cabin I almost passed out. Having it towed to the dealer later today.
