Clunking from rear
Ahhh...aren't you having fun yet?? Smoking....nahhh....gave up cigs long ago...and as for the other...never did. Makes your brain fuzzy...mine is perfectly clear. How's your stash? Colorado is "going up in smoke" now...as is Washington. Oh, you're closer to Wash.
I figure...when you are agreeing with someone that has their facts wrong..such as '12 RDX shocks fit the 2nd Gen etc, I think you both are smoking something...'cause you sure aren't thinkin' straight. Facts....Maaam...just the facts!!!
Yeah...legal....but, for how long?! Problems in "joint land!" Things will change. I get high on life....don't need the "stuff."
Quiet...and stiff...and rigged for your 2nd Gen. NOT made for it. You are compromising...fine. When KBY or someone else makes THE shock for the 2nd Gen...then you can put on the correct shock for your application. Oh, what a concept.

...and a stiffer ride. You've modified the overall design of the vehicle's suspension system...did you do your homework to understand what collateral impact it may have? NAH....I'll stick with pestering Acura!
PS - Have you checked mount points between 1st and 2nd gen and also different years of 2nd gen and even 2016? HINT...some changes!!!!
OK guys.........we have beat this subject to death, and have had a lot of laughs doing it.
I have come up with a "Top 10" list of reasons to bring you car into the Acura dealer for new shocks.
10. Shocks were dirty anyway........needed changing.
9. Get to know the service writers on a first-name basis.
8. Have been praying to get one of those new "revised" quiet shocks.
7. Free car wash and vacuum.
6. Get to drive a new loaner that does not "clunk" in the back.
5. Forum members swore this is the way to go.
4. Test out route to dealer programmed under Navigation "favorites".
3. Building up service records for my next CARFAX report.
2. Hope car falls off lift so I can get a new one.
1. FREE COFFEE!!

OK, I've come up with another good reason for taking your RDX to the dealer versus using the 1st gen KYB's....as replied to today by KYB TECH SUPPORT:
Here's what I asked:
I have a 2015 RDX and have had rear shocks replaced several times because of "clunking" that occurs....sounds like shock bottoming out. Was looking to replace them with KYB's but find you don't offer replacements for 2nd generation RDX (i.e. 2013 and up). Some people I've spoken with have used the 1st gen version you offer, but I am not sure that is the right solution. Can you provide some guidance on this, please, and do you intend to offer a version for 2nd gen?
Thanks
Here's the reply:
"Sorry, from our data the 1st gen isn’t a proper fit for the 2nd gen.

Reallly...guess you must be the expert huh?? NOT!!
READ the reply DIRECTLY from KYB...the 1st Gen shocks DO NOT fit or are meant for the 2nd Gen. PERIOD!
What part of that do you not understand???
Man...some people don't give up when the truth is smack dab in front of them.
Give it up...Say.."I was wrong..sorry"
I can do that when warranted....obviously you can't.
My research is pretty much done on the '16's shocks, suspension etc.
The rear shocks, front shocks, front and rear springs are ALL NEW. New part #'s....been replaced. Confirmed by Service/Parts Director at my dealer, and my personal look up of Acura part #'s also confirms this.
NO...they did not change rear shocks on the '15's or the previous 2 model yrs.
Buy a '16 and enjoy all the new upgrades!!

I have read where people have used the 1st gen on their 2nd gen and state it fits.
Can you tell me why KYB does not feel the 1st gen is a proper fit and the risks of using the 1st gen as a replacement.
Thanks for your help.

Joe,
We haven’t tested this theory on a RDX.
We are in the process of coming out with a product
for the 14’ and 15’ at this time.
We should have something on the market the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Respond back to them and ask them why they didn't include the 2013 RDX.

Interesting the new part is a monotube vs the excel g design on the first generation. Can't wait to hear how this works out
Maybe Colorado Guy can chime in with a comparison to the 2016 OEM versions becuz he did an extensive evaluation on them if I am not mistaken. Would be interesting to note if the new KYB design is same/similar to 2016 OEM design.
Does anyone know for sure that 2016 RDX does not have same issue? GF's 14 RDX had struts replaced a while back and they are starting to act up again. She is interested in 16 RDX AWD Advance, but if the same crappy struts are there then we will move on from Acura.
Maybe we should start a new thread for the updated KYB rear shock that is supposed to be available third quarter this year? I'm really anxious to hear people's thoughts and experience with this part. It's got to be better than the OEM right...
The rear springs and shocks have different parts between 2015 and 2016 (per the part breakout on Acura Parts | OEM Acura Parts | Factory Acura Parts ).....

Btw I had the exact same issue on my RDX 2014, in another thread I read that it was the shocks. I took the vehicle in for service and the reaction from the service technician was Acura and their recent habit of using cheap parts from China rather than Japanese parts. They replace the right strut and the sound is completely gone.
It sounds almost like someone has a book and lightly bumping the interior of your back or side wall.
The sound appears when ever your strut is moving or slightly in the beginning of a bounce hence you don't hear it all the time.
On the freeway going over 40 you won't hear them at all except right at the beginning of a bump.
