Automatic transmission with transfer fluid

Hi, I am having acura rdx tech 2014 model with approx 40000 miles on it. Recently got a service alert with code A1 ( that says oil change and tyre rotation). When I went to dealership for service, they kind of foreced me to have transmission fluid replaced as per them it is recommended at 30-40k miles.

Want to know is that true or I should simply go with car reminders and get it replaced when it pops up ? ( either A3 or B3)

Thanks!!

Seems like the stealership took another victim. Sometimes they tend to recommend services if you are close to the regularly scheduled time-frame. But you probably could have waited until the 3 code came up. Did they show you how the trans fluid looked? It shouldnt need changing unless it looks very dark red or brown.

Thanks!
In the future ask them to show you published Honda documentation which supports their claim of needing any given service. If they cannot then ask them to put the recommendation in writing and then send it to Honda U.S.A.

Well fluid changes are the cheapest form of insurance. I am not saying you should change it.

This "Car Dealership Ripoff" video and the Marketplace series are a hoot to watch.

you should've gotten an A3 or B3 at around 25k miles, did you replace the transmission and rear differential fluid at that time?

Actually, Acura is recommending ATF changes every 30k on the RDX. I suspect this is due to issues with judder and they have found frequent changes help prolong the life and get the cars past the warranty period. I personally will change mine every 30k while I have the car considering how rough the transmission is already.

Not that I had a choice, but I would have bought my RDX with a 6 speed manual if it was available. I shift smoother up and down than any automatic and there is far less to go wrong in a manual.

My other vehicles still have a 5 and 6 speed manual. Been driving one since I was 8.

Agreed; if a car isn't available with a third pedal under the dash, I look for a different car.
