Another Record Sales Month For RDX!!
http://www.sacbee.com/2012/07/03/460...june-auto.html
over 3,000 units...June Sales record and most likely, best selling compact SUV
. ILX, on the other hand, only just over 1,000 units last month....pretty disappointing, but expected, sadly
. Dealers have the inventory, they are just not selling. They better update that engine/tranny to get more substantial sales results, and they better do it soon!
Anyway, congrats to RDX!

But good news on the RDX.
Let's see how it does this month with "better" inventory. Not sure nationwide, but inventory in South Florida is HUGE...40-50 in inventory average in each dealership vs. 15-20 RDX's. I think next month we will see similar results, there is NO demand for this car from any demographic..

On the other hand, the ILX has generated little interest (look at the poor ILX forum... it's so quiet there!) and I have not seen a single one on the road yet.
Such striking contrast.... how could Acura hit jackpot just like that with the new RDX and yet completely miss the mark with the ILX!? Sigh....
Ostrich...The ILX's failure reside in the TSX close offering and the poor engine performance. Acura would have been wise to kill the TSX when it introduced the ILX and gave it the same engine....or called the ILX the TSX and really consider it a FMC.
To add insult to injuries, the folks that want the manual (and get the power) can't get the luxury (tech package)....so Acura is saying, you decide what you want...power or luxury and no one wanting to buy a premium brand needs to be placed in that dilemma.
Its like asking to chose whether you want your wife to be a good lover or a good cook?!? Why couldn't I get both? I know I am...note for all Acurazine female members *lol*

I pretty much agree with weather. It's too close to the TSX....and the TSX is a well established car....and is a great one, in my opinion. I've driven them, my daughter has one....it's a great car for the price. The 4 cyl. one. The 6 cyl version is a waste. The 4 cyl has 201 hp, gets up and really moves, and handles great. I't quiet, smooth...just a great buy on a well done 4 door sedan.

Colorado Guy....Well, after owning the TSX (2009) prior to my TL, I can attest to how great the TSX truly is! There is no doubt that the ILX would have been seeling so much more if the TSX wouldn't be in the way, and had the power to boot.
nice. but arent cars like corolla and f150 best sellers? i dont like f150 or corolla they are horrible.

ILX sold only 14 in Canada in may, LOL. about 1000 in US. pathetic considering honda's goal of 40,000 ilx in 12months.

the ILX inventories for may were just trickling into dealers. my dealer didn't get their share of their ILXs in stock until the first week of june. give the ILX by the end of summer to see how it does.
i've started to see a few 2013 RDXs rolling around my area. i'm sure to see more. i always see acuras driving all over the place here (TLs (lots of 3G and more '12's), TSXs (a lot of these), MDXs (a lot of these too), RDXs, RLs). go to say less populated and a significantly smaller well to do population...not too many acuras if any.
ILX will be a tough sell with the underpowered engine and it's older brother in the way (TSX) as many others have said.

I really don't buy into the "it'll take some time" when cars like the BRZ or FRS can barely stay in the lot for a week. Acura has seemed to dedicate themselves to their "You love it or hate it" philosophy for their sedans, which is killing their sales only to be saved by the success of the RDX and MDX.
I wish they kept the previous generation TL, TSX, and RSX while moving in the direction similar to Infiniti/BMW with sport-luxury. Their sport line was definitely a force to be reckoned with, paired with their great styling. Now Acura entry level cars are just Hondas with... hmm... same power train and chassis... an Acura badge.
I'm a big fan of Acura's MDX and RDX, but i'm not entirely sure where they're trying to go with their sedans.
I agree with Weather about killing off the TSX when the released the ILX. I thought that the TSX is in a perfect area for entry level luxury vehicles in terms of price, power train, and standard options. They definitely had a unique position by providing many standard features (HIDs, leather seats, etc) and leave it to Honda for those not ready to move up to that $30k price point. A 111 hp luxury car?! Come on!

I've already said in the ILX forum that in order to boost sales to a competitive level, they NEED to upgrade the engine to a premium version of the 2013 Accord's 2.4 DI engine with horsepower 210-220 and torque 200-210 mated with a 6 speed auto. This will give the car competitive acceleration of under 7 seconds while also delivering very similar EPA numbers to this pathetic and old 2.0 155 HP engine/5-speed setup. These new Earth Dreams engines will be supposedly best-in-class in fuel economy. I would have even considered it with that setup. THEN it would be a great value at about $25,000-$30,000....who ever spends that kind of money with the car's current set-up is not really all that informed about cars IMO. And how it looks, people aren't being fooled by the bells and whistles, they test drive it, and don't like it. Undoubtedly, this is and will remain a SLOW seller.
3000 units doesn't make the best selling compact SUV. The June data is showing Ford escape being the best selling compact SUV.

The Escape is not considered a "Small Luxury SUV" thus it's not in the comparison chart. The RDX is in a "nitch" market and will never be the "top selling small/med SUV." I know that Acura never intended it to be. It was intended to go after the sales of the SUV's you see in the chart in this thread.
Got to put things in their proper perspective. The Cadillac SRX is in the lead.....but, 3 years from now see which SUV is worth more % wise....the Cad. or the RDX??? I know where my bet would be!!
The real test is to look at the 1 year sales numbers for the same SUV's in the chart in this thread. Can the RDX stand up to long term ownership and testing? Time will tell.

July 2012 sale figures announced. RDX sales were 2664 vs 1100 for July 2011. Up 142 percent. Year to date sales are 13937 vs 8187. Up 70.2 percent. No word on how may of the reported sales are residual 2012 models. They also report by number of selling days which differ between years. Although still strong, following May and June sales of 3000+ vehicles perhaps the initial rush is starting to subside and dealer inventories will build.

Sales were down across the board for Acura from Jun to Jul... except the ILX which is still gaining a little speed (at least as much as it can with a 2.0L
). Probably just a seasonal thing.

Not sure how accurate the link is, but numbers seem to synch up on some months to previous posts above.

So RDX sales continue to do well, but pale in comparison to MDX sales.
RDX 2012 (thru July): 16,093 (13,937 US, 2,156 Canada)
RDX 2011: 18,266 (15,196 / 3,070)
MDX 2012 (thru July): 31,326 (28,405 / 2,921)
MDX 2011: 48,605 (43,271 / 5,334)
RDX numbers through the year are 88% of the total for 2011, looks like Acura should make it's modest sales target of 30,000.
