Where I live, the premium gasoline does not contain ethanol, only the regular gas. Not all gas stations carry ethanol either...only the one that clearly labels it.

Don't even get me going on why on Earth some clever politician feels its better for the planet to deplete our farm land (and disrupt our food supply/pricing) for energy when there is abundant energy available!

This.

Ethanol is the biggest sham in energy. It exists only to drive up the prices of goods by driving up the prices of both corn and fuel. I would guess it doesn't even achieve the clean energy BS since it makes you burn more gas due to the decrease in mpg.

Weee!!!! 26.4MPG lifetime average with 29.2 last fill-up! It's pretty hilly here, I bet I could do 30 once the car breaks in and if I lived back in FL! So far I only have <1500 miles on the car.

Feds got a problem. Higher gas mileage means less gas used means less highway taxes means less money for the government to waste.

Ethanol was more of an renewable energy than anything. The US has oil now, so they should cut this BS out. I could understand before the US, Canada, and other friendly countries was running short, but thats not the case now even though we still import oil.

One step at a time.
You live in Texas. With prices there no excuse not to use Premium!

Apologies to those living in areas with higher priced fuel; but I'm not going to spend an extra 35-40 cents a gallon when I don't need to. I kinda like the sound of $3.25/gal that we are paying about now.

danmangto, I was wondering what the RDX's "average mpg" on the instrument panel was showing during this trip? In any event, at this point anyone that STILL believes that the current, second generation, RDX's MUST use premium fuel, is a perfect target to get swindled by ANY car dealer's service department. I think a shrink would call their illness "submission to authority"(right or wrong).

Just got back from a 800 mile trip to Cape Cod MA. Overall mileage was 27.2 mpg which imo is very good. I had quite a bit of short drives and stop overs so the mileage is impressive. I initially had 87 octane and could feel the gear change when going uphill. The next time i filled in 92 octane and the uphill acceleration was much smoother. Overall also, the car felt smoother to drive with the 92 octane as compared to 87. I am going to stick to 92 octane.

The avg mpg instrument panel was within 1 mpg or so.

UPDATE.. I did switch back to 93 octane and I have noticed my avg mpg has gone up 1 to 2 mpg in my commuting. Also the few times I have go wide open throttle the vehicle seems slightly more responsive at higher RPMS, smoother/faster.

Based on my cost analysis, gaining 1 to 2 mpg makes up for the dif in price from 87 to 93 in my area. I've found stations that only charge 26 cents more for super vs regular.

I'm on my 2nd tank of 93, but it included a full round trip from Columbia to Charlotte (about 100 miles one way)

The reason I asked was because I'm also in NYC (Queens) area and most of my driving has been either on local streets (where the RDX feels and sounds like the suspension is falling apart) and short trips on the GCP & LIE. No matter how many times the display has updated, I haven't been able to get it to read over 17mpg. Unless there's something very wrong, that's terrible....and I was even driving VERY light footed. Based on the instant mpg accordion gauge, on the parkway it appears that I'm doing really good, but since it's an average and I haven't been able to take a long highway only trip I was concerned. I have even been putting 93 octane premium in just to be sure. Yesterday, the cheapest gas around by me was Mobil - 87 octane $3.65.9 and 93 octane, which is what I used $3.99.9. I don't think I could EVER make up the price difference, even if I did get a few mpg more.

Man, I guess i've just been taking it for granted because i can't remember the last time i didn't fill up at my local Costco, but premium (93 octane) is still only 20 cents more than regular (87 octane). I wasn't even aware other gas stations started charging more than this 20 cent difference until i got on here and read it from you guys!

I just passed the gas station yesterday and see from the big sign that they raised the price of regular 87 octane $.18 OVERNIGHT!

I couldn't see what they did with Premium 93 octane, but I'm sure it's WELL OVER $4.25 a gallon. And once again, it's not a matter of whether I can afford to pay, it's just an OUTRAGE!

Yeah gas here was about $3.15 or so about a week ago and not it is $3.35 (87 oct).
Premium is usually .30 to .40 more here. For me the premium fuel has to give me about 10% better fuel economy to justify the price difference. Basically I would have to average 28mpg (just over 2 more mpg than my current average) or more to make premium worth it for me.

I've found our local Costco 87 is often the same price or MORE than Chevron or Shell nearby; however, the 93 price usually offers a 10-20 cent 'discount' compared to the branded stations. Guess they want to pull in those 'gotta have premium' buyers...good for the customer profile, I reckon.

We're seeing numbers all over the place. Filled one vehicle last week @ $3.24 and the next day couldn't find anything under $3.45 !
