2017 RDX cold start noise

2017 RDX with 105,000 miles. Currently at dealership and they claim they didn’t hear it this morning. I’m guessing a mechanic didn’t start it and it was driven into bay by someone else. Happens every morning and goes for about 10 seconds. Then does not do it the rest of day. Had major 100k service done a couple thousand miles ago at dealership (timing, serpentine belts, water pump etc). We have an extended warranty until 120,000 miles so I really want to have this figured out. My personal mechanic seemed to think it was coming from transmission area, but he is not at all familiar with acuras, so he was not at all confident.

anyways, I’ve done a ton of searching online and haven’t found anything that sounded like this. It sounds kind of like a power steering pump issue, but these don’t have a PS pump.

I would be looking at all the tensioners and belts to see if they're still fine. However it's really hard to diagnose unless you are near the car.

Just to provide an update. Dealership called the first morning and said they did not hear the noise. While it was up on lift and running, the tech heard something and found a leak from the exhaust. I told them I didn’t think that was the issue so to keep it another night and listen the next morning. They did so and said they didn’t hear anything. I was pissed because it had been making the noise every single morning for a couple weeks. He said the leak they found was up at the engine so it could have been what we were hearing. Although, I don’t understand why it would make that noise for 10 seconds and then go away.

having said that, it’s been a over a week and we have not heard the noise since. I guess it must have been related to the bad flange. I’m still holding my breath each day waiting for my wife to tell me the sound is back…..

The dealership found an exhaust leak and saved your life, but you're still not convinced.

He's still alive! When you boil it down it's quite dense with drama: Dealership does something useful, and exhaust is still poisonous.

I am very impressed with our Acura dealer to be honest. They kept it a couple of days and gave us a loaner. I was skeptical because my mechanic (who is family) said he doubted it was exhaust. But it was making the noise EVERY day and it literally has not done it since they fixed the leak. But that’s why I brought it to them to begin with. Well, also because we had the extended warranty…..
