2017 RDX with checkered past - good or bad?
My wife and I are looking at a 2017 RDX with 36k (it's at Carmax), we test drove it, drives great and seems very nice. I registered it on Acura's website today and viewed it's past service maintenance which is my concern. The carfax & autocheck shows that it was reported as stolen in Dec 2017, it was returned 10 days later (in NJ), we knew about that before the test drive. But today I discovered that when it was returned to the owner, it went to the acura dealership for these repairs:
Oil Pan
Transfer Case
Transmission
Rear Differential & Mount
(All replaced)
the mileage was 12,876. We're 'glass half full' types and want to see the positive in things, so the all of those items have been renewed, which could be seen as a good thing.
Any advice is appreciated! We love the RDX, if this one doesn't work out, we will look for another one.

The biggest risk with a stolen vehicle is not knowing if there's anything illegal still hidden inside. If you get pulled over and searched, and they find something suspicious, it won't be fun. Legal issues aside, I wouldn't want anything to do with a vehicle that had a transmission replaced at 13k miles, regardless of the reason.

get a pre purchase inspection
Sounds as if ran over something hard enough to cause all of that damage

make sure if you are missing any keys to get them deactivated by the dealer!

How much of a deal are you getting on it with this history? If not more than a regular used RDX with the same mileage, I'd be inclined to pass.

Odds are that with replacement parts, it's fine. Peace of mind is important, though, so I'd pass, unless the price was significantly better than expected. If they are selling at a deep discount and it checks all the other boxes for you, I'd say go for it/

I would avoid that car like the plague. If you run into drivetrain problems you may find the warranty is void due to being run without fluids during the theft. There are plenty of off-lease 2017 RDX available with the 4yr/60000 basic and 6/70000 drivetrain warranties fully intact and valid for very reasonable prices.

There are plenty of RDX's out there, why mess with this one? I would move on and find another one with a cleaner history.

I wouldn't touch anything with a rebuilt honda transmission. My experience with that in an accord was that when the original tranny went bad they put in a rebuilt tranny and gave me a 3/36 warranty with it. Mine had the original plus 3 rebuilt transmissions in it before 100,000 miles and me dumping it.
