I purchased a 2017 RDX Advance yesterday and the sales person referred me to this forum. I had inquired about possibility of such forum - since I am already an active member of PriusChat.
I was wondering if there is a section within this wonderful forum that is geared towards the on-boarding of new proud Acura owners?

Congratulations on your new car and welcome to the forum. It's a great place to share your opinions and ask any questions if you have. Many members are very knowledgable and helpful. They helped me a lot whey I was looking for my car.
Now you are officially an Acurazine addict. .
Post some pictures of your new ride please.
Thanks Comfy. I will start with a pretty silly question - How does one get started with Acuralink. I tried to create an account, but it needs VIN # (which I have) and PIN # (which I do not have). So where do I get this PIN #?
Congrats on the car! I took delivery on the 2016 model a couple weeks back with a 6k discount. Anything about the 2017 that you love and didn't come in the 2016 model?
@Savage - Nothing is different. Just purchased 2017, is because when (and if) I sell it, it would always be younger car. And who does not like "young" stuff...
Also just bought a 2017 Acura last Thursday. Love it. Drove my girlfriend's parent's 2016 RDX and had to have one. Three words....air, conditioned, seats. Got the top of the line Advance, Basque Red ext, Parchment int. Looks so nice. As far as I know, there is no difference between the 2016 and 2017, but like ukshah said, had to have the "youngest" model, even if they did have a few 2016's left that I probably could have gotten for a few thousand less.
Since there are no changes to speak of between 16 and 17, it really depends on how many miles you put on your car. If you drive very many miles, then the 16 is a wiser choice, but with normal to light mileage the newer version makes more sense.
A year from now, everything else being equal, a 2016 with 25k miles will be worth more than a 17 with 25k miles as the 16 will be considered to have "normal" mileage while the 17 will take a huge hit for the extra miles.
That said, if you tend to keep your cars for a long time it doesn't make any difference.
Very true. We plan on keeping if for the full length of the financing (and we bought the extended warranty for up to 100K miles), so not really an issue to us. Thanks for the reply!
Gratz - we have a '16, year old this month with 8000 miles. No problems. Great vehicle. Complaints would be road noise above 70mph, infotainment system can be tempermental, and ugly wheels. The drivetrain is easily the smoothest in the segment and the exhaust is just about perfect for this type of vehicle.

This was the biggest thing I noticed about the 2016. The drivetrain is silky smooth. I was wishing for an 8 speed transmission though, but the 6 is well matched to the engine.
Dan, If I may ask - what extended warranty did you buy. My dealer also offered us one, but I had read that you can buy the similar (if not same) warranty for less, online.

Correct. Go online and search for "Saccucci Acura warranty". Saccucci is a Honda dealer who went to court (and won) with Honda about being able to sell warranties online. There are other dealers also selling online
(Curry, Bernardi) and prices vary slightly. I've bought a handful of warranties (both Honda and Acura) from Saccucci with no problems. I've also gotten pro-rated refunds without issues when I sold the cars.
Saccucci (I don't know about the others) also sells the Acura Care maintenance plans at a discounts (and for cost if you buy a warranty) that may be of interest if you normally get servicing at the dealer. The last time I bought the maintenance, I paid $850 for 4 years 60k miles. If you drive 60k miles in 4 years then it'll be about 8 or 9 services. In general, 4 will be A services and 4 B services. There will be about 3 "2" services (cabin and air filters) and one "3" service (tranny fluid). Without any discounts, my dealer charges $129 for an A1 and about $200 for a B1. Filters (2 service) are about $150 on top of the B1.
In another thread, there are reports of the B123 service costing ~$400.
Accordingly, if you just walk into the dealer and say "do the xyz service please" you'll pay over $2100 for service over those 60k miles.
If you clip coupons, get competitor's discounts then you can probably save $1000 - about the same if you get all your services done at Honda.
You can also spend under $850 if you get simple oil changes instead of "A" or "B" services and do the inspections and cabin and engine air filters yourself.
I find it convenient to go to the dealer, drop the car off for a service and never have to haggle or reach for my wallet. "Just say no" to all the added crap they want to sell you during servicing. That's easier to do if you have the maintenance plan too. At my last service they told me I was overdue for a coolant flush (I wasn't - not even close) so I said "If it is required at this mileage then it must be covered under the maintenance plan. If it is then go ahead and do it." - it obviously wasn't as the coolant flush (Service 5) generally appears around 120k miles - not the 49k that I have on the car now.
Whatever you do with maintenance, you have to learn what is required by the manufacturer and don't fall for crap being pushed by the dealer.
This dealer even sticks a sticker on your windshield reminding you to come back "in 3 months or 3k miles for your next service(or when the maintenance minder reaches 15%)." They also love to sell you additives - stuff that the manufacturer advises you not to use.
Dealers get away with this because the average consumer is an idiot, has never read the manual and has the "Iffy Lube mentality" with services every 3 months or 3k miles that has been drilled into us.
Good info in this thread! Helping my parents replace their 2006 RL, looking to get a base model 2017 RDX. E-mailing a few dealers now to get some ideas on pricing.

Thanks, so far I have gotten 3 quotes. $36,050 from Acura dealer in Middletown, NY, $36,000 from Park Ave Acura in NJ and the lowest price from Ramsey Acura thru Costco auto buying program $35,268. Waiting til Saturday to get the RL appraised.

I don't believe that there are any tax advantages in trading a car in NY (you might want to check the sales tax codes where you plan to register it) so it might behoove you to get a quote fro CARMAX, webuycars or whatever is in your area. That will give you a good ballpark figure to compare to dealers.

Ceb,sales tax depends on the state you register the vehicle..
Ceb,sales tax depends on the state you register the vehicle..
Isn't that what I said?
To clarify:
In some states you pay tax on the full amount of the sale (excluding NH where you pay no sales tax but they make it up in other fees). In other states, you pay tax only on the difference between the value of the trade and the value of the new car.
If you register the car in a state where sales tax is calculated on the difference, you might be able to trade the car for a lower price than a private sale but still come out ahead because you are paying less tax.If he gets $10k from the dealer for his RL (but pays $800 less in taxes) then he is better off trading even if he could get $10500 from a private party.
Oh, I see what you meant. The OP is in TX and is looking for cars in NY/NJ. You're assuming he is registering the car in TX. I'm assuming that he is looking for cars in NY/NJ because that is where his parents live and where the car will be registered. NY/NY isn't the cheapest place to buy cars so it wouldn't make sense to me to look in NY and drive to TX to register it. In that area PA is a better place to buy cars.
@ceb, you are correct. I live in Houston but my folks still live in NY. I am going to check on the sales tax credit. I remember the sales guy at Ramsey Acura mentioned something about it.
I was going to fly up to NY this weekend to take the car into CarMax to get a feeling for trade-in value but we have guests coming from out of town to entertain. I will probably be on the phone with the other NJ once I hear from my mom what they offer her at Ramsey.
Their 2006 RL only has 64,000 miles on it but it is part of that airbag recall and I have been reading that Acura has been giving dealers some type of allowance for these trade-in because they can't do anything with the car until they replace the parts. http://www.autonews.com/article/2016...airbag-recalls

I'm in the NYC metro area of Jersey and a lot of Acura dealers so good competition here.
I'm live not too far from Park Ave Acura one of his dealers.
He should also try DCH Acura in Verona. That's where I got mine.

I bought my 2017 base RDX on 5/31 from Acura of Wappingers Falls. Great experience and sounds like it's in your parent's vicinity. I paid $35,700 before taxes. I actually thought I paid $35,960 and thought that was a great deal but looked at my paperwork the other day and saw it was actually $35,700. Comes with oil changes too. If you go, ask for Adenike. She was great. No pressure, didn't try to sell me accessories and gave me more for my trade (Ford Escape) than any other dealer.
Thanks for the info! Yeah, my folks live in Rockland County. They are a bit older and since I can't come up there to help them with the car purchase. I'm limiting the service to a few dealers in NJ that are 20-30 mins away. The lady at Middletown dealer was also really nice to deal with over the phone and e-mail.
So far the $35,268 quote I get is the lowest, hopefully they don't lowball them on the trade.
