2014 rdx starting issue

hi all,

i'm new here and this is my first post.

i purchased the 2014 rdx awd in nov. 2013 brand new. when i first drove it a few times i felt the starting felt a bit different from my previous car (2007 lexus is250 which also had start/stop button). i asked the service manager about it and he stated the acura start is different from lexus. so, i didn't paid any additional attention to this. after 300 miles later, when i pressed the button to start the vehicle, it would not start (sounds like electrical problem?). i then pressed it a second time it would start. this happened for another 3-4 times in the next 2800 miles. fast forward to today, it happened again. had to pressed it a 3rd time for it to start. i brought the car to service to have it checked out. i mentioned my experience and he came out to reproduce this issue. he pressed it about 10x and all 10x it started normally. i asked if you're able to diagnose any parts of the vehicle even if you're not able to reproduce this. he simply said no..he needs to see it and there would be an error code. told him he never seen any code when it doesn't start. he said "next time it happened bring it in." . but if it happened again, and if i bring it in, i would have already started. this is a hit or miss kinda of deal.

not only is it's annoying to start the vehicle several times, but i don't know what other parts of the vehicle may be defective as a result of this.

i don't know what else to do? any suggestions would be much appreciated.

many thanks.

^^ Are you sure you press hard enough on the brake pedal?

Maybe video record your next start? Does it happen when the car has been sitting around for awhile? Maybe your battery isn't cranking enough amps? Just guessing as I am not even close to being a weekend mechanic.

I have to agree with Weather on this one. Slow down and make sure you press on the brake pedal first, then press the start button. I have had the same experience as you, and realized that I was in a rush and did not do the correct sequence to start the car.

dangtran09....Well, we have eliminated the "push the brake all the way down" possibility. So what does it do when you press the button? Turns slowly, or doesn't turn at all? Any chance you could try and capture it on camera? I know its quite unlikely but could your remote have a defective/weak battery?

I just bought my RDX about 6 weeks ago, and today for the first time I've had this problem. Car has roughly 1300 miles on it, I parked it in a downtown garage this morning, walked around the city for about 3 hours, and when I got back and tried to start it, It literally took at least 7 seconds to crank. I pressed on the brake, pressed the button, heard your typical cranking noise, then it got lower, and everything just vibrated for a few seconds, wasn't sure if the engine was on, till finally the tach read about 800rpm..... First time it happened, hope it doesn't happen again...

i have pressed the brake all the way down, hold, press the start button , hold, crank for 1/2 second, shutoff. press again, engine start.

has happened at least a dozen times in the past 3 months.

this continue to be an issue and i'm making appointment to have it check out at the service once again.

first time i brought it to service, they were unable to reproduce, so they couldn't help me further. i'm bring it in again and this time will request them to hold it overnight and try to reproduce issue again. i'll mention to them this is an intermitten issue and may not happened when you have it.

i don't know what i will do next if they still cannot reproduce and fix.

lemon law maybe?

Might want to try holding the button a tad longer than a half second? Not sure
