2014 RDX AWD - 500 miles - Oil Leak

Our brand new 14 RDX AWD Tech has soiled my driveway

At first I was sure that the drops were coming from my Audi. Afterall, it is an Audi. Thats part of their DNA. But after switching cars around I was able to acertain that its coming from the RDX.

Damnit.

The oil is leaking from the driver side of the engine bay almost directly below the CV axle. The oil is accumulating on the subframe. (The droplet is just above and to the left of the hole in the subframe).

So with only 500 miles I think its fair to say I am annoyed. Ive had new VW's, Audi's, Mitsubishi's and Toyota's and none of them ever leaked any oil whatsoever so it is somewhat of a shock to me that my new Acura does.

Its not the end of the world by any means and we love the car but I hate to take it in so soon.

Anyone know what could be leaking? Is this a common issue?

Thanks!

Obviously it's not common or you would have heard or read about it loud and clear. They make thousands of these things. Not every single one is going to be absolutely perfect. It's probably just something that didn't get the right torque or something. I know it's upsetting but this is the first one I've heard that has even used any oil, let alone leak it.

Take it back to the dealer and have it taken care of under warranty.
Come back when it's fixed and let us know what it was.

I agree. Annoying as it may seem things happen.

yeah, you should just keep driving it until the whole front transaxle falls off, no worries.

Mine leaked oil too as soon as I brought it home, thought I hit an oil puddle. A couple weeks later and it still didn't go away so I brought it to the dealer and turns out the oil filter had a crack on its shell.
For me the oil stain was on the passenger side tho.

It would be great if that's all it was. Let's hope so.

I dropped it off at the dealer today (was parked for a week at home while we were on vacation)

They said they have never seen this kind of a leak on the RDX and would let me know what was up as soon as they could. The advisor seems to think that it may be transmission fluid due to the slightly red tinge.

Gave me a TSX Wagon loaner. I will update when I find out what was leaking.

It ended up being the front axle seal on the driver side.

It was transmission fluid that was leaking.

Service seems to think that it was damaged during installation at the factory. All is well.
