Just drained all of the fluid in my 2003 Toyota Sequoia and replaced it with Max Life. I had paid the dealership 350 bucks about 20,000 miles ago to replace all of the fluid, The fluid that came out was Brown, no cherry color in it. Also smelled funny. I drained the fluid out 2 qts at a time from the trans cooler line and then poured new fluid in. Took about a hour , then drove around the block and checked the level again. About a qt low, then added a drove out on the highway. Very pleased indeed. Will up date on how this turns out after a road trip later in the week. I will probably do the same thing, when my warrentie runs out , or maybe sooner. The trans in the RDX works great for now , and hope it continues to do so.

Drove the Sequoia (2003 model) through the Blue Ridge Mts of Va this weekend. I traded out all of the used trans fluid last week with new Max Life. 16 qts went thorough the change out. Like driving a new vehicle again. My wife who is the driver of this car spoke up after the change and said she was really impressed with how this has worked out.I'm going to add a trans cooler to the RDX for longevity of the trans and also making it easier to trade out the fluid when that time comes along. I started changing out the trans fluid this way back in the 80's on my Volvo's and have continued to do so on most of the cars I have owned. Helped my 2003 BMW Touring ,,,375,000 on that one and still rolling fine.

Just returned from my local Honda Dealership, where I purchased my vehicle. Was in due for an oil change, trans fluid service and transfer case and rear diff fluid service. Greatly surprised when I noticed that they have Valvoline transmission service center there in the shop. I asked the attendent what they filled my trans with, and the response was Maxlife. Left a happy camper, and the car is shifting so smooth. They told me these cars like the Valvoline and thats what they use, at the Honda dealership no less,,,well !

And the Naysayers (that's you Horseshoez) will be along shortly to say either: you hallucinated, because a Honda dealership would never do such thing -or- the folks at the Honda dealership are idiots for putting such non-blessed juice in your transmission

In all seriousness, I'm glad your experience thus far with MaxLife ATF has been the same as mine...I'm certain it will continue to be that way as well. At the same time, I'm far from the first to use MaxLife successfully in Honda transmissions. Someone way smarter than me figured that out over a decade ago and it took a couple cars with misbehaving trannys to move me to give it a try. Almost 500k miles of personal use later...I'm glad I did.

Thanks for sharing...now get that S-VCM Controller installed!

S-VCM installed today

Ok here’s the report. S-VCM arrived yesterday afternoon and I installed it today ON A COLD ENGINE very important. Right away the transmission shifted quicker, smoother, and an annoying thump from 2nd gear to first has been eliminated! No check engine light either. My two cents.

You're pretty funny; I have long maintained some of the most ill advised things I've ever seen and heard came from dealership service departments. The above related experience is no surprise at all.

YES!...there it is. You certainly didn't disappoint...the folks at the dealership are idiots for putting such non-blessed juice in the transmission.

Second part of the equation just became a reality. The S-VCM has been added ,,no codes present and now running on 6 cylinders at all times. Question, shouldn't the temp gauge be a little less than it normally would be registering ? The gauge seems to be setting at the same place as before , just slightly lower than half way on the scale, which in this case is a bit above 1/3rd of the total temp scale.

My temp gage is at least one notch below where it used to be after installation.

You my friend are bordering on being a troll. I never said every technician in every dealership is an idiot; quite to the contrary, many folks employed in dealership service departments are very competent; then again, there are a few who aren't qualified to polish a pair of old boots much less work on a car.

Troll? Really? Just to point out a couple things...you came into a thread which I started to stir sh*t from your 1st post. You're not a RDX owner, you claim no experience with the MaxLife ATF, yet...you state anyone who would put ML in their transmission doesn't have a clue as to how a automatic transmission works...you imply the technicians at Poolman's Honda dealership are idiots for putting MaxLife into his RDX transmission.

Now...who's the troll?

When I initially installed the S-VCM into my 11 Pilot, the temp gauge needle sat slightly lower than before. I moved the S-VCM into our 13 RDX right after purchase and honestly did pay any attention to where the needle sate before / after. I think you're fine.

Running S-VCM on my 2014 RDX tech for two weeks now. No CEL! Love the V6 engaged at all times. I haven't noticed any significant increase in fuel consumption. I wonder how long will the S-VCM last??

Good luck...please post your results. Also, as I've mentioned previously...I would personally swap MaxLife synthetic ATF for the DW-1 ATF as well.

Ok i installed vcm controller on my 2016 RDX AWD today. Straight foward installation and easy. As soon as i turned engine on, i got cel light a code p0118 engine coolant temperature circuit high input.
i cleared code and drove for 15min around city and little highway. I could feel v6 engaging all the time.
I guess i have to change driving habit now.

I will keep you updated again if anything changes.
overall i like it and recommand this vcm controller!

Did you install while the engine was still hot/warm? The 1st vehicle I installed my S-VCM Controller in was our previous 11 Pilot. When I performed the S-VCM installation, the engine on the Pilot was still hot and I too got a CEL. When I sold our Pilot, I moved the S-VCM to our 13 RDX...this time waiting till the RDX engine was completely cold before installing. No CEL on the RDX.

This was an entertaining thread

I'm normally onboard with horseshoez. He's the reason I investigated oil viscosity more closely and came to the conclusion that I should be using the viscosity indicated by the manufacturer. But there's just too many darn positive reviews on Maxlife. Not to mention a complete absence of negative reviews.

Clutch wear was my first concern. It's not a foregone conclusion that a quick shift is wearing clutch packs slower, but as far as I can tell, the shifts are just as quick followed by TC lockup as they ever were. For now, I'm sticking with it.

That's downright amazing! Especially considering that the S-VCM has nothing to do with the transmission.

his engine might switch to 4 cylinder mode or back to 6 cylinder mode around the time he hits 2nd gear then it would make it smoother. some people might not accelerate that fast. I will say my car is much smoother after installing the S-VCM

Update: I installed S-VCM in May without any issues. Yesterday the check gas cap light came on for a while. Today the light is off. Is this related to S-VCM??

In this case it does affect the shifting especially the down shifts. Even though VCM doesn't have to do directly with the transmission, it is in fact influencing the car's computer in the sense that it fools the computer to read a lower coolant temperature thus shutting off VCM in the car. In simpler terms, the car computer processes less information on the shifting since VCM is off, thus smoother shifting all around. I kind of remember reading something about this on the S-VCM website. My 2 cents.
