'12 CRV and '13 Acura ILX Recalls
Just found out that Honda Motor Corp. is re-calling ALL the '12 CRV's and the '13 Acura ILX for door locking issues. It's a safety thing, so, all owners will get recall notices soon.
Apparently the auto locking systems may have an "issue" and thus allow a door(s) to unlatch at any time.
Needless to say....I wonder if our RDX's are going to escape this?!
Anyone having a better behind the scenes ability to find out more....please let us know.

Unlatch, as in swing open while driving or just unlock? I know the front doors do open when you pull the latch, even when locked (from the inside, at least). But Acura lists it as a feature. They must be talking about something else. Thanks for the heads up.

Of course, as most of us know...the door won't go flying open, if at most any speed, due to wind and g forces...but, it certainly is a safety hazard.
#4
The problem is with the CR-V if you pull the door handle and the door is locked it will not open. If you pull the door handle and simultaneously push the unlock switch supposedly something breaks inside the door causing the problem. This should not affect the RDX since when you pull the door handle the door will open even if it was locked so there is no reason to try to push the unlock switch simultaneously.

Completely unrelated, the 2013 Ford Escape catches fire and all drivers of the 1.6T engine are mandated by Ford to Stop driving due to a high fire risk....brings new meaning to the word "Escape" This car just came out like a month ago....still a F.O.R.D. (Fix Or Repair Daily) I just hope nobody died due to this

^^^ Yikes. Talk about wanting to wait while all the bugs are worked out of a new vehicle prior to purchasing!

I don't know if I would rather be stuck in the Escape with a fire or thrown out of the car while driving 75 on the highway with the CR-V....The decisions in life are never easy when you want a compact SUV.

I hope its the 2.5L....please double check and return the car if its the 1.6T, otherwise you may be put into the awful position to "Escape" a hot, hot fire, lol.
#10
Ford says do not drive it. They will tow it and give you a replacement (applies 1.6L Turbo only). There is another recall for the Escape involving the insulation under the carpet near the gas pedal.

Is it possible that the RDX may come next....yes, possible.....since so many systems are shared with these 2 vehicles that are part of this recall.

Statement by American Honda Regarding Front Door Latch Recall: 2012 Honda CR-V and 2013 Acura ILX
American Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 166,000 model-year 2012 CR-V vehicles and approximately 6,200 model-year 2013 Acura ILX vehicles in the United States to replace both front door latches and, in some CR-V vehicles, the interior front door handles. Simultaneous operation of the driver’s or passenger’s inner door handle and either the manual or power door lock may result in the inner door handle release cable becoming partially disengaged. When this occurs the door may not latch when closed and/or the door may latch and close, but then open when the door locks are operated; either case may result in the affected door opening unexpectedly. No accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue.
Honda is announcing this recall to encourage owners of all affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda. Mailed notification to customers will begin in mid-August 2012. In mid-August, owners of these vehicles also will be able to determine if their vehicles require repair by going on-line to www.recalls.honda.com and www.recalls.acura.com or by calling (800) 999-1009 for Honda owners or (800) 382-2238 for Acura owners, and selecting option 4.

That's crazy regarding the Ford Escape 1.6 engine. I test drove the 2.0L and really liked it, but with the options I want it would be 33k. I rather get a RDX for the same price.

GRDX....you having fun? You need to calm down Jersey boy. I asked a simple question and it's obvious the way you responded you aren't playing nice. Now are you?? Stop the bs. We all know what you are trying to prove. Showed up the last time we "talked." Will let the moderators judge this one.
I'm done here. You obviously think you want to take over the topics in your "Jersey way." You are exactly what we don't need here.

I am not trying to have fun. I am exchanging ideas.
I think it is you that needs to calm down and you need to stop with the name calling.
And I tried to answer it. Not only for you but for myself and other members who also had their suspicions raised. First by explaining how the two systems operated differently so it was unlikely the problem may be related to the RDX. Then after you dismissed my explanation quoting it and bought up the possibility of them still possibly being related I researched the subject again not only for you but for myself and the other members. I copied the statement from Honda that showed Honda stated they will replace the LATCHES in the ILX and CR-V to correct the problem with the LATCHES and showed that the LATCHES used in the CR-V and ILX are completely different parts than the LATCHES in the RDX. I emphasized the LATCHED then and now so it is clear this is all about the LATCHES.
How is that? I simply backed up my opinion with facts. Why are you so paranoid? As I said before I am not playing. I am exchanging ideas. I have no reason to target you but when you accuse me of things I will defend myself.
I think anyone reading this thread except you could clearly see I am not BSing.
I don't know what you think you know. I know I was trying to prove my point. I think most others here know that as well.
You were clearly misunderstanding what I was saying to the point of putting words in my mouth. I was only trying to make you understand. You made a statement which was a threat or could have been a joke. I chose to take it as a joke and make light of it. Yet you continued with the paranoia. I'm sure the Moderators would see that especially your response to which I am now replying.
Why do I not believe you? That's right you said that last time yet you are back at it again.
We both joined the same month yet you post well over twice as much as me. If anyone is trying to "take over the topics" it is you. What is a "Jersey way" anyway? Did you have a bad experience in New Jersey and now want to take it out on me because I live there?
You obviously don't like to be wrong. If when I looked up the LATCHES, remember this was about the LATCHES, and it turned out the CR-V, ILX, and RDX shared the same LATCHES then my efforts would have served to back your theory up and I would have reported it the same way. I could still be wrong about the LATCHES as even though they are different part numbers they may share a similar design. That is not too probable, however, as the CR-V and ILX LATCHES are about $25 each while the LATCHES for the RDX are about $175 each.
That is your opinion. I am beginning to think the same of you.

Colorado Guy.....I don't want to be seen as taking side here as I don't like being in the middle of arguments/discussions and you know that I having nothing against you and find your post quite informative and useful.
That being said....I am not quite sure what you found offensive in GRDX's post. I re-read it just to be sure I didn't miss anything and could not see what was made you upset.
This forum is all about sharing information, knowledge and having some fun along the way....I just hope that we can all still respect each other. This is what I like about Acurazine unlike most other forums...people are quite civil and respectful of each other.

^^^ We are delighted to see you didn't self-combusted!
That is too bad for Ford though....their Escape pre-FMC was amazing seller and its unfortunate that this had to happen. I must say that I applaud their quick action and may actually do good at preserving their image. As much as I am not a Ford guy, I always hate to see any car company having a major recall on the launch of a redesign....

I know they are not in the same class and there are many differences so I am not asking you to compare but I was curious to know what you thought of the 2013 Escape from a 2013 RDX owners perspective.

The new Escape drives very nicely and we would consider it for sure if we were looking in that class. It doesn't drive like an RDX (few SUVs do) and it doesn't feel as upscale. It's not bad, though. The ride isn't as quiet and smooth as the RDX, and the handling isn't as comfortable.
It's nicely appointed, it's just not quite in the same class. Needless to say, I prefer the RDX by a long shot!

Thanks for the report TampaJack. That was pretty much what I was expecting to hear. The 2013 Escape was on my list of vehicles to check out. After considering all the Honda models I was interested in and not being able to pull the trigger I went for a test drive in a RDX since it was the most expensive on my list figured they would not make the deal I needed and just get it out of my system but once I pulled it out of the lot I could tell immediately it was what I was looking for. They worked with me it was close but I bought it that day and never got to check out the new Escape.
