Uh-hoh, Bad Tranny Experience :(

So over the past couple days, this happened to me a couple times, but I didn't really think it was a big deal until it just happened today when I was going to lunch...

Seems that sometimes (seems like only when the car is cold, but I don't know...) when the car shifts from 2nd to 3rd in AUTO mode, it just doesn't grip/lock, it slips and the RPM's rev way up without the car going anywhere... You have to completely let go of the gas and wait a second and then you press it again and it catches. This only happens if you give MEDIUM gas, so it still revs
to 3500 or 4000rpm, but then it shifts to the next gear while still accelerating rapidly.

I also experimented in SS a little after this happened, and it seems like while accelerating, if i shift to the next gear at exactly 3500rpm, the shift from 2-3 is a lot more jerky than any other two gears, but that could be just the ratios... I can't test the 1-2 shift for obvious reasons (stupid half-auto ).

SO, on to the uh-oh: Is this the type of slipping that is the harbinger of the Evil Acura Transmission Failure? Have other people with failed trannys seen this exact thing? What should I do now -- should I go to the dealer and bitch about it, should wait to see if it happens again, etc. etc.

I really really yearn for stick anyway, so maybe I should just sell this car before the tranny goes to some unsuspecting soul? I guess i'd just trade it in to the dealer. I'm afraid that if I get a tranny replaced, the resale value of it will be totally fucked cause it won't have a clean car title record anymore (or whatever it's called that you can check on Carfax).

What should I do? Is this bad!??!

Stats:
2001 CL-S. Purchased 05/2002. 17.3k miles.

Read the transmission section. I believe slipping gears is the number symptom of tranny failure

hey hey hey

good bye!

sorry man, welcome to the club. After that happened to me I did manage to get probably 2000 miles out of mine before it completely went kaput!

I hope they can have a quick turn around for you when they swap the tranny.

A transmission replaced under warranty should not show up on
CarFax.

I had an entire engine replaced under warranty with my previous car & before I sold it I checked it on CarFax.
Nothing was there other than title holder, lien holder, license, registration & inspection.
