Type S Lady's S/C'ed TL-S Tranny taking a dump!!!
Yep, at 36,853 miles! I began to notice it about 2 weeks ago it began slipping from 1-2 or 3-4 with the slightest of acceleration like 2 or 3 times a week. Since this Monday it has happened everyday 3 or 4 times a day. It's weird, when I drive it hard the tranny feels fine, it's under slower traffic driving when I notice the hiccups or slipping. I have an appointment to have the tranny checked on Monday and will let you guys know how it goes. V/R is going to be getting a visit for a tranny sooner than I thought.

I could go through the drama and be a butt about the obvious conditions of all of the trannies. But it's one of those things that come along with modding a car to death. It wouldn't be worth my time nor effort to argue. I mean I won't walk away like a punk, but I will bring up the fact that it has been included under the tranny recall due to them building crappy trannies. If I don't get it covered, I'll have a friend pull the tranny and get it to V/R for the Stage 2 tranny.

You mentioned that word "hiccups". On my CLS 6MT, I had an issue with the S/C ESM unit to ECU wiring where the T-tap terminals weren't very good connections. This would cause "hiccups" and/or misfiring. I've since had CompTech solder the connections for the ESM which solved the problem. A number of people have had the same problem and had it fixed in the same manner.
I'm wondering if this is what you're experiencing that's making the tranny appear to be slipping. Anyway, I think it's worth looking into and may save yourself considerable time and money.

How much is this Stage 2 tranny upgrade? My S/C'd tranny is scaring me a little by acting "weird".

You're right about feeling the screwy tranny more when just crusing than when at WOT...that is untilit totally gives out. I remember my trannies would seem to hunt for gears more than usual when cruising before taking a dump.

Get the V/R tranny and check into the billet converter.
The clutch packs should be a huge improvement.

You should give them a call -- their data seems worthy.

you think that cost is worth the benefit? if the tranny is the greatest hazard with this car, and you 100% fix it, then this car will probably go the distance. it's a personal choice i know, but is there a car in the cls class that's built solidly that can beat the price point of the cls?

If you aren't going to S/C the car and drive it like a maniac, I don't think you would need it.
They simply made a comment about one member who took the car to the track every WED and really liked stepping on it.
The gearbox was upgraded but didn't receive the billet converter (so I was told).
The person has some serious mods and really drives hard. The box had problems and they told me they installed a billet converter; they said the box was still solid (meaning the parts excluding the torque converter).
IMO, a tranny cooler and some clutches would go a long way to helping out.
Give them a call and have a chat. It would be nice to see greater numbers of rebuilds from them, but at this point there are only a few that I'm aware of. So far, I haven't heard any bad news (this is not to say that it isn't out there).
They did give a hearty endorsement of the tranny cooler (B&M/Comptech) *and* really liked the idea of keeping the shifts down (as in using SS to keep the car from shifting too much). I'm sure many would be miffed at the suggestion that they shouldn't do constant 3-2 downshifts at redline, but the design is pretty much fixed in stone (the tranny doesn't shut the throttle (electronic throttle not available) and there isn't any provisions to do rev matching). So, when you change gears, you are wearing the clutch disk and also heating up the ATF.
They also change the line pressure a bit and change some other features to change the shift harshness to reduce wear. I will need to call again in a while, but after getting some "mixed" feedback about Level-10, this looks like an alternative.
Sure thing -- no. But, more options are better than fewer options and the guys there seemed to be smart and personable (well, at least on the day I called them).
YMMV
