Unfortunately not

Tranny was starting to act a little funny towards the end, so maybe it was slowly on it's way out, but at least for ~5 months it held up.

I'll try to, but the first oil change took a week and a half to get in, so I'm really not very optimistic about getting it looked at first thing, and I'm NOT leaving it there.

The blower DOES have to be removed to reach the top bolts on the trannie. My Honda dealer charged my $300 to remove and re-install the blower when they changed my trannie under warrenty in 2002. Now I have about 14 months and about 10,000 miles on the new trannie and I have had zero problems. BTW , I am running 8-9 #s of boost and pushing over 260WHP and 245#s of torque to the wheels and running 13.8s in the 1/4 mile, so I do abuse it well.

It is an Accord V6 with a lower compression ratio and smaller displacement.

Well I took it to the dealer this morning unanounced, and explained the symptom to the service manager. He went into how they've been replacing them when they have prolems, you'll get a loaner, it'll take a week or two, bla, bla, bla. I said if they're going to take the transmition out, I would need to take the blower off. His eyes got big and then he asked when I could bring it back with the blower removed. We set up an apointment for tomorrow at 2.

Here's the problem. I took the blower off and put it back to stock, kind of, and went for a spin. The Trans is working great, probably better then ever. So I drove around some more, harder, and it was perfect. So now WTF! I'm sure if I take it in tomorrow they will think I'm nuts!

Oh great... It still may not hurt to have them look at it. However, if nothing I would prefer them not to touch the transaxle as you could experience problems.

I think I'm going to leave it for now, without the blower, and drive it for a while to see if anythig shows up. One thing I noticed, without the added power of the blower, the shifts are alot quicker and firmer. Maybe the 5AT is truly not up to the job.

Not having time to have read the whole thread -- did you add the B&M/Comptech ATF cooler?

Just keep driving it for a while and if you want to check for funny behavior, try some repeated 2-3/3-2 shifts under WOT. That's what the factory uses to see the 2nd/3rd clutch packs slip (and fail).

Of course, the added power under full power is going to drive the heat up in the clutch packs and also soften the shifts up. Once they slip, they go real quick...

YMMV

The Comptech ATF cooler went on with the S/C. This thing shifts so smooth and quick without the blower I can't believe it. At this point I'm commited to put the blower back on to see if this thing worked itself out, but first I'm going to run w/o the blower for a while to see if it shows up again.

I'm glad to see the problem is solved for the time being. It is just unfortunate it is working fine without the extra power. Keep us informed.

Interesting assumption Darrin, how often do you use SS mode (%). I am in SS 98 % of the time. Though the trany should "know" when we are not in the SS mode, is it somehow getting confused ?

It should know and by the indicators under the tachometer should confirm this.

I wonder if the extream cold temps we've had could cause these no-shift episodes. It doesn't seem likely, but

Acura did put a "ATF warmer/cooler" on the car. Too cold is not good for an engine or a transmission. IMO, it's possible.

Some stuff to ponder:

1. How well does the thermostatic control of the B&M really work using ATF's viscosity? (I sure don't know and if it’s really cold outside what does that say about the hoses and parts of the B&M that are not “bypassed?”)

2. If the ATF is really cold, it’s going to be pretty thick -- hard to get delicate hydraulics working with thick muck.

3. Thick/cold ATF would actually make for hotter clutch packs. Acura commented on how ATF flow was "limited" into the inside of the clutch packs due to quality control issues. It's possible to have cold ATF just outside the clutch pack, and hot ATF on the inside. This "limited" flow issue was mentioned in the docs sent to the NHTSA.

Only speculation…

i doubt it, the tranny was fine when it was like 0 deg for 3 weeks then when it got a lil warmer these problems started to happen

cant be the weather

it cant be good for our cars though, i mean we have soo much momentum pulling at like 75 then nail the limter

it must be even worse on ur car brad cause the tach is pulling harder
