Tranny #2
Some of you might remember that, along with many of you, my tranny went a few months ago at almost 19k miles. Well my fiancee has a 2001 V6 accord and guess what....Her tranny just died as well. Nothing earth shattering as unfortunately we knew the symptoms and her car started acting up on the streets as opposed to the highway. She has about 20k miles on her car and is at the dealership now.
Interesting tidbit is that we have different styles of driving. She drives normally meaning she doesn't redline often or accelerate very hard. She doesn't gate-shift or do anything abusive to the car. Me, I drive hard and my car is obviously modded (her car is stock). Reason I mention this is that some people think that trannies fail because they are abused or driven hard. This is not necessarily the case.
I guess I am disappointed but at least we knew it might happen. Sucks but hey shit happens and at least nothing bad transpired. I hope Honda can get this issue fixed if they haven't yet but this does leave a sour taste in one's mouth...even if overall the Honda/Acura lineup is a good one. Maybe I can convince her to get a G or a Z.

driving style has nothing to do with these tranny failures....it's poor engineering. Yes even Honda f*&ck's up sometimes. Parts are supposed to be way over engineered so things like this won't happen. This is another reason to stop waisting your time with slush-o-matics

Actually, in my experience, Honda has notoriously made terrible automatic transaxles; this is nothing new and goes back to the '80s. The failure rate is increasing now since the power levels are increasing.
But Honda engines and manual transmissions are incredible!!!

Cyber, Honda/Acura should cover you for as long as you are under warranty for the tranny regardless of how many have died.
Ray, I agree that I need to get a manual and just learn on it. Oh and the lady said she prefers the G only because she doesn't like the Z interior. Other than that she likes both cars....we'll see if we can use this info after the wedding!

From what i've seen so far, driving in D5 all the time causes problems. I'm in D4 unless i'm on the highway and I'm still on my 1st tranny @ 67k miles.
But that's more of an educated guess than anything factual.
