Car: 2001 CL-S
Drove on the highway about 30 min, got off started going down side streets. when i would start to brake for stop signs the car would downshift really hard to a higher gear then back again feeling like its jumping gears. as this happend the hazard (!) flashes, my VSA light goes on and my check engine. I immediately shut the engine off waited a min started back up still doing the same gear jumping to my destination. attempted to drive the car back home 3 hours later so i took it easy on the highway. as i slowed down on the offramp the car started jumping hard again till i got it home. Im going to call rallye acura tommorow and hope the best they will fix the trans or if its a computer prob. anyone have an idea what could be wrong with it, or if rallye will cover warranty? thanks for reading.

thamind- are you the original owner of this vehicle? if not, what mileage did you purchase it and are you aware if/when an oil jet mod was done on your tranny? or if it has been replaced already? Check out the transmission forums for a lot of information regarding this problem.

im the 3rd owner i just bought it about 8 months ago at 72k miles. i dont believe a jet mod was installed as the previous owner didnt know jack about cars or how to care for them. Also i dont believe they changed the timing belt because the previous owner claims their mechanic said this car uses a timing chain. go figure.
but UPDATE: i called rallye they cover everything including towing! they towed my cl-s this morning from my house and said it will be done in 3 days. they also need to replace the electronic seatbelt sensor as it broke.
and another thing i need new HID bulbs if anyone knows a place for cheap (ebay sells them about $70 each) please let me know thanks!

same exact thing happened to me
, but i had to take the car on a 45minute trip to the nearest acura dealer
(i accually developed a way to drive it witout it jerking in that amount of time
). they replaced the tranny as well as everything else that broke as a result of them having me drive it there. they were pretty good about it once they realized how bad it was to drive.
they paid for the rental car and also did the 60k mile tune up for free.
in all i ended up paying under $100
but sure enough, it looks like it might happen again soon.
goodluck.

OK so heres the update. i paid $0 for everything! drives like a dream.. they even cleaned my brakes, changed my winshield wipers, put in a new ECU and seatbelt module, and a bunch of other things (that 60k mile tuneup) but one thing i mentioned to the guy was about that jet upgrade thing a lot of you are mentioning on here but hes never heard of it..so he didnt bother.
but he did say my passenger side engine mount bushing is cracked..no big deal unless its the front mount. also he mentioned the float for my brake fluid is broken, so sometimes my brakelight comes on n off. he said if i replaced the float, filter and fluid it would fix the prob but its not necessary. Anyone ever come across these problems? should i leave the engine mount bushing or should i replace? thanks for your input!

Hm I would say the engine mount probably should be fixed as far as the bloat for the brake fluid I say just check the fluid level a lot because it will no longer give you a good reading if its low or not. Although it sounds like they did a great job and took VERY good care of your car. Also there is hope for the new trannys on 02/05 acura updated them and those seem to be lasting MUCH better.

so is there an aftermarket high performance transmission for the type-s or would the updated 02-05 tranny trackruner228 mentioned fit in my 01 cl-s? If they make an aftermarket one, anyone kno a price or a company to contact? every time i drive my cls i feel like i cant really open it up cause im afriad the engine will overpower the trans n blow it!
