Rebuilt Transmission That Makes A Whining / Humming Noise
I had a rebuilt tranny put in at 2500 miles on my CLS 2002. The rebuilt tranny makes a whining / humMing noise. You can really notice the noise at 35 MPH. Does any one else have this problem?

Well, I have a 2001 CLS with its original tranny, and it's very quiet...
Something isn't kosher....
Something to try (a suggestion - if you care to):
Go to your dealer and get in a new CLS with auto. Drive the new or used CLS in conditions that cause your noise. Now, bring YOUR car around and ask, "Why does my car make this awful noise and yours doesn't?" And….

You guys aren't going to like this, but I heard this whining sound on my tranny shortly before it died. I'll have to let you know if I hear it with the new tranny when I get my car back. It's now been over two weeks.

If I hovered around 20-25 mph I would hear the sound. Dealer said they had never heard that sound before, and that it was most likely another new problem with the updated trannys

I'm not sure if I'm hearing the same sound you guys are. I stated that I heard this sound shortly before my tranny died. However, I can't confirm that it's coming from the tranny. It is indeed a whining noise. It is most noticable at around 20-35MPH. The pitch of the noise increases as the RPMs increase until it gets to about 40-45MPH and then you really can't hear it anymore. It seems louder now that I got my car back. However, it's not crazy loud, but is totally noticable when not listening to the stereo. I'm hoping it's not the tranny and it's something else. Whatever it is, I hope it doesn't give me any problems until I can trade my car in.

I beleive its your new tranny. My wife noticed the noise as she was driving off from the dealer with the 2nd tranny. I filed my paperwork to try for the LEMON law in Florida. I will let you know of the out come. They have 10 days to respond to me or they forfit the final repair, I have 2 more days to go. I am hoping they will offer me a new 03 manual 6 speed. I can the hear whining over the radio at 35mph it really bothers me alot.
If you want to get some action from Honda file a case with the BBBautoline. Also contact Mr. Koichi Amemiya he is the President of Honda. They will respond and offer a bumper to bumper warrenty for 100,000 miles.

Hmmm... Time to add a "new phenomenon"/"quirk"/problem to the list of known issues...
Whining + whining == more whining…
As much as the warranty stance is welcomed, without viable transmissions for replacements, it’s like playing musical chairs with broken legs…

I heard the whining as soon as I left the dealer with the first new tranny. Only in 1st & 2nd. Dealer said it needed 500 miles to be "broken in". At 500 miles the whining was as loud as ever (maybe louder) and they put in #3.

Did all the replacement tranny's make this whining noise? I am afraid my soon to be replaced whining tranny is just going to be replaced with another whining one.

darn
I cant believe this...this is just great
I brought it in for the whinning noise awhile ago and the tech rode in with me and said that the whinning noise was due the car being whowned so tight. Fast engine, etc. First I was thinking to myself..this is not a ferrari or something...but who was I to question what he told me. It came out quickly and with confidence, so I figured he knew what he was talking about. After reading this ..I see I'm screwed.
I wonder if the times that when I let off the gas, it is just the gears downshifting or what...because it almost feels like the car is jerking a little when at 30mph or less.
I think I will do what one person mentioned on here and test drive a new one and check the sound on that one.
Just freakin great!

RaptorCLS ... these are the same experiences I'm having with my rebuilt (installed June 02) .. whinning .. odd shifting .. repeated shifting when just 'cruising' (trying to maintain speed) .. in fact, today, while driving through a car lot .. doing less than 10mph, the tranny started freaking out .. and actually stalled the engine. Soooo .. I'm over this .. this car will be gone in the next 30 days .. I won't tollerate this disbelief - denial coming from Acura .. for all those that believe that the tranny problem is resolved - know this .. the Acura rep told me that their trannies are different than everyone elses and that they will most likely be louder and harsher but that they should be more reliable ... what a crock of shit!

The plot thickens and grows darker every day. Even the guys who staunchly defended Acura a while back are having trouble with their trannys! Luckily I'm not having trouble but am beginning to think of selling my car and BMW! I still absolutely love my CL-S but this trans thing is hanging over our heads like torture!

Hello
I started this thread about the whining noise in the transmissions. I am in the process getting documentation for going to arbitration with the Better Business Bureaus Autoline. I like to have some testimonials to bring to arbitration. Would you be willing to email me about the problems that you have had with the whining noise? I would like to have your name and address if possible for the testimonial but not required. Please list problems in chronological order, how many transmissions you have had replaced and so on. If you ever need any help arbitrating your Acura I will do all I can to help.
Thank you
