Hey,
I need some help regarding buy a second hand Acura CL 2002 having around 30,000 miles. I have read reports abt this car having transmission issues, is it true & what can I do to prevent them or identify them in the car Im buying. Appreciate your help.

all the 2nd gen CLs have auto trans problems. it stems from design defects in the trans. no way to protect from it. unless you buy an '03 w/ the 6-speed manual.
currently american honda warrants the auto trans for 7 years/100K miles. if you buy one expect trans problems. maybe sooner. maybe later. but eventually. check the posts in this forum and you'll see lots of info regarding the auto trans. you can also check the NHTSA web site. you'll see lots of complaints there as well.
at least one member here has reported significant medical problems related to the trans failure in his/her car. one of the failure modes is an unexpected downshift from 5th to 2nd at highway speeds. this results in rapid engine braking without warning. if someone's following you too close on the highway when this happens you get rear ended. hard. it's not to be taken lightly.
