Mileage on car when transmission needed replacement…

There seems to be some interest in when the transmission went...

If your transmission needed replacement, would you fill out this poll?

TIA

A guy I work with has a pearl white TL-S and his
transmission went out at 17k

It took 2 weeks for John Eagle to get the new transmission in.

He got a loaner no problem & said the dealer was straight forward about the whole thing.

transmission milage

Sorry about the misleading vote but I voted 50,000 and it was my old Honda Accord (120,000mi) that needed trans service not my new Cl-S. So strike that vote off. Again sorry about that as I know this is a series subject.

It would be nice to know when the cars were built. Maybe there is a certain build of transmissions that have the problem. It is hard to believe that Acura would continue building transmissions they know will fail.

They are already trying to determine that on the TL board...but, there are failures in the '03s as well.

Tranny

Are you guys kidding me or what that all the trannies go with these low amounts of miles? My girl just got a 97 CL 3.0 so I am brand new to the board. Is this a problem only with the newer vehicles or is it pretty much comon throughout all of the years?

apparently it's more common with 2nd gen cl's, mostly 2001 cl-s, although the '97 is the first year first gen cl, which might have more problems than the 98-99..i dunno

new poll of people without transmission problems

We need to know how many people have not had any problem with their transmission, how many miles they have on their cars and what year they have. This information would help to see how big of a problem there is.

Jap Transmission

I have a TL-S 2002 made in December 2001. My transmission was made in Japan according to the window sticker. I wonder if it makes a difference if the transmission is made in Ohio or Japan.
I haven't had any problems with mine.

I have 318xx on my odometer right now and apparently I need a new tranny. It hasn't completely shat itself yet though, so should I wait until I get it replaced or just go ahead and vote 30-40k?

If you already did it – don’t sweat it.

The nearest “bin”/"bracket" is from 30,000 to 39,999 miles. (I don’t know if you are going to get to 40K based on comments you received, from others, about your current tranny behavior(s).

If you haven't already added your data, could you add your info when you make an appointment for a replacement?

First one @ 28000, second one 500 miles later, 3 days after the 2nd one's installed it's back in - overheated - a week later still waiting to hear what they are going to do about it! On the plus side, get a better replacement car each time (this time, "anything you want on the [rental] lot")!

Mine's fine --- for now

I have a 2001 CLS (purchased in Feb 01) and have had no transmission problems yet.

I have had other issues though (AC went out, pads/rotors were defective, power windows, etc) and am wondering what is going on with Acura.

I will go out to my car later to find out when the car was actually produced just for everyone's edification.

Does it seem that more people are having transmission problems than not?

Well I babied it and tomorrow I bring it in at 10AM to see what they say about getting it replaced. It's really hosed up right now - flares, stutters, awkward shifts, etc.

I'm not trying to wait until it does a fateful 5-2 shift. As soon as I get the green light on getting it replaced I'm going to tell them to call me as soon as they have a CL or TL loaner in and then I will bring it in for the replacement (because I'm not gonna be stuck in a fucking Integra or Enterprise rental for however long it takes them to replace it.

I'm also getting the trans cooler installed on this one from the get-go. I've kept the trans cooler I bought last summer and will finally get it installed.

I'm at 41,000 and change right now, btw. Had a drain/fill done around 37,000 and the fluid that came out was nice and burnt and smelled nice. (Hey I like the smell of slightly toasted trans fluid.) =)

Hopefully there's no back order on transes or anything. Maybe I might even get it done in a couple days. *wishfully thinking*
