I joined the CLUB!!!
Howdy howdy,
I just joined the Acura Tranny Failure CLUB!!!! Yahooo!
my 03 cl type s failed as i was merging onto i-95 in Jax Fla, wow, could have been real ugly. approached at 40 ish and BAM! downshift and sudden deceleration. limped off the next exit ramp and parked. figured, lets try a restart, ooops now i cant back up !!! no reverse. service engine light on, vsa light on, exclaimation light on and 5th gear indicator blinking. limped to dealer, and he tells me "no problem, we will just put a new one in".
03 with 82,000 miles- 75% highway -weekly trips from Jax to Palm beach.
so i visit this board and HOLY COW! trannny problems out the wazooo.
i expected so much more of acura - reliability-wise. heck my 92 camaro had 160,000 miles before it needed a new tranny.
some of you guys have had 3 and 4 replacements, crazy this is a major safety issue.
I contacted the law firm in cali, Mr Nugent.

has the issue been taken care of?
some of the latest posts i saw never said it was wrapped up. my email to the attorney was replied to. they wanted to know my contact info, so if all was wrapped up why wouldn't they just tell me?

Hey guys, I have an '02 CL-S with 46K miles. I had the tranny oil jet installed awhile ago. I don't even remember the mileage.
I've been running smoothly until maybe a month ago. I notice when I get around 50mph the car kindve lurches. That feeling like when the engine downshifts while on cruise control going down a hill. Kinda hard to explain, but it's that feeling in short bursts, maybe 2.
Is this the tranny problem that SHOULD HAVE been solved with the oil jet kit?

hey san mari
sounds like your working up to a complete tranny failure soon. as i look back, i had some weird "jerky" shifts every once in a while, never really thought about bringing it in. just figured it was the overdrive speed sensor hiccup i noticed on many cars, i would always drive in 4th, never 5th unless on the highway.
you should be covered up to 100,000 miles, at this point the dealer may do nothing.
however you may want to print out all these forum pages and bring your car in and see if they will put a new tranny in before you go to failure - it may be dangerous if it happens at the wrong time.

I'm going to the dealer this weekend. If they don't replace it, all hell's gonna break loose!! There's obviously something wrong and I'm not going to wait for an accident to happen.
It's gotten worse and I originally thought the same thing....overdrive. But now it happens almost every time I drive.
Is there a place that lists info about the number of failures? I'm not sure the dealer would look at a forum with any merit.
I'm experiencing "erratic shifting" as it says in the recall letter, so I hope that qualifies for replacement.

The thing that really spooks me is all this crap I read about mutiple trannys. So we have to live with this without a definite fix. That's disheartening. I love my car, I'd hate to see it die before 200,000 miles. (or 100) Let's hang the engineer.

i'm extremely dissapointed by reading all this. I figure i'll get the new tranny and stick a for sale sign in the back window for a month or two. i have my eye on a new base level civic, i figure that will run 200,000 miles easy, its cheap and if anyone has read ANYTHING about "PEAK OIL" that lil 4 banger getting 38 MPG will be a blessing when gas is hitting $4 a gallon- it wont need the high octane either!!
