How many 2003's with replaced trannies??
I was wondering how many owners of '03 CL-S's have had their transmissions replaced. After reading about all the '01's, I wondered. I have an '03 and my transmission died today on the way to work. 58k miles. It sucks, but I am just happy that everything is covered.

I had my first replaced at 82k and my second replaced at 89k. Third seems to be doing ok at 99k.
I'm a little worried about the warranty extension ending(not to mention my extended warranty) - but I figure that since I'm on my third, it shouldn't be too hard to get Acura to goodwill the 4th.

You have 82k on your 2003?? Wow. I thought I drove mine a lot. I guess this probably dismisses Acuras claim that the problem was fixed for the late 2003 models.

I bought mine in April of 2002 - so it was one of the earlier 03's. I'm up to 99k miles.

You guys are scaring me. I was hoping that the later production '03's would be less prone to tranny failures.
I'm at 58k now and the tranny seems to be working alright still. It seems like the car judders a bit in second gear around 20mph, but that only happens every once in a while.
So how many of us '03s have NOT had to replace their tranny, and how many miles so far?

I'm in the same boat, baught a later production 03, that was after the vin's included in the original extended warrenty hopeing it would be fixed, but I have my doubts....Oh well, at 95k I'll trade her in for a hybrid toyota or lexus of some sort, man the new IS looks good....

A possible reality check:
Just buying another brand of car is no guaranty that a "slushbox" will last over 100K miles.
I know a number of folks with various cars (with slush boxes) that were NOT abused and the slush boxes needed replacement in fewer than 50K miles. The cars were *not* Acuras...
Slush boxes do wear out -- and they don't need to be abused (via hard driving) to fail within a few years or with few miles.
IMHO:
If you're thinking of getting a new car with a slushbox (and I'm not talking about DSG or other "novel" auto trannies), you should check Consumer Reports and visit the owner's forum and ask the owners how their slush boxes are working…
