Talking Free transmission at 97,800 miles!

With only 2200 miles left to go on my generous Acura extended powertrain warranty, my tranny starts slipping from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Car also began shaking noticably upon acceleration.

So I bring her in for an oil change and have them inspect it. Yep - needs a new transmission, so they order if for me and it should be back by Tuesday. No hurry, as they gave me a TL loaner.

The purpose for this post is to share my opinion that Acura is a class act. They could have simply decided not to do anything, and left me holding the bag after 100K miles.

Maybe its not a big deal, but I was impressed. Makes me want to buy that RL now...

Even if you had no purchased the extended powertrain warranty you'd still be covered to 100k miles on the transmission.

Also, many dealerships give out "goodwill" replacements beyond 100k. I know my dealership has done free replacements at 130K before.

Acura would be a "class act" if they actually fixed the transmission problem instead of just replacing them over and over again.

Agreed.

Which is never gonna happen for a vehicle that's no longer in production!

Tranny upgrade

And I'm glad to hear it's possible to get goodwill tranny replacements.

To clarify, I did not purchase the extra warranty - it was the extended one issued by Acura a couple of years ago at no cost....

If it's an older one I hope the transmission doesn't fail over the weekend

Now this is what I like to see. I have 67K on mine, and it's good to know that Acura will do the right thing

Talking

My 4 day test drive is a 2005 TL. This will definitely help me decide on the TL vs the RL - which I love except for the somewhat bland exterior styling and weak torque - when compared to the HP and the competition...

do you drive a CL or TL, premium or type s? How many miles do you have on your car now?

If you have to get another tranny down the line, would acura still give it to you on good will like you did at 114k?

Angry Update On My Free Tranny

WELL... Where to start... The tranny, ECM, and fuel pressure regulator??? were all replaced at no charge to me. HOWEVER... Here are my problems with the car

1) New ECM programming has the tranny shifting at 5800 rpm, a full 1000 below where it should and did previously. Probably to reduce stress (and performance).

2) At wide open throttle, and in third gear, the check engine indicator flashes, then stops after a few seconds.

3) On the way to work this morning, the check engine light is now on permanently, and my VSA disabled itself, and will not reset. I suspect both of these may go away when I restart the car, and will appear.

ANY SUGGESTIONS on my recourse... the car is going back, but I want to have some ammo before I go to the dealer. Thanks!

Anthony

I have been searching through threads for the past 3 days trying to find out some information so i do not just ask questions that have been asked over and over again. I just bought a 2002 CL about 2 weeks ago and was wondering if the warranty is only good for people that bought the car or am i able to go get it replaced if it goes out.

Thanks

the extended warranty on the powertrain and transmission is good for the car. SO in other words, it is not only for people that bought the car originally, but for the car itself.
